Job Title: CAD / BIM Technician
Job Description

The CAD / BIM Technician is responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining accurate 3D models and project-specific CAD data to align with client and project requirements. This role focuses on the technical execution and integrity of digital models throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring that design information is correctly captured, coordinated, and updated. The CAD / BIM Technician collaborates closely with Project Managers, the BIM Manager, and engineering teams to support efficient project delivery and to leverage existing software tools effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, update, and maintain 3D models and project-specific CAD data to ensure accuracy and consistency throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure the integrity and quality of the digital model, including proper organization, layering, and adherence to project standards.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and the BIM Manager to set up and optimize project spaces, workflows, and model structures.
  • Provide ongoing technical support to Project Managers for maintaining project spaces once created.
  • Work closely with engineering departments to accommodate evolving design needs and incorporate design changes into the model in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Provide technical solutions and recommendations related to CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling to support engineering and design decisions.
  • Utilize CAD and BIM software such as Plant3D or CADWorx, Revit, Recap or CloudWorx, and MicroStation to produce high-quality drawings and models.
  • Work with point cloud data and 3D scanning outputs to develop accurate as-built or existing-condition models.
  • Apply knowledge of process design for specialty chemical, food, pharmaceutical, power, and other industrial projects when developing and coordinating models.
  • Support compliance with relevant industry codes and standards by incorporating them into design and model development where applicable.
  • Maintain a strong commitment to quality by thoroughly checking and reviewing model content for accuracy, constructability, and maintainability.
  • Communicate effectively with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders to clarify design intent and resolve technical issues.
Essential Skills
  • Current working knowledge of CAD and BIM products, including Plant3D or CADWorx, Revit, Recap or CloudWorx, and MicroStation.
  • Experience working with point clouds and 3D scanning data in the context of model development and documentation.
  • Familiarity with process design in industries such as specialty chemical, food, pharmaceutical, power, and other industrial sectors.
  • Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to producing high-quality, accurate models and drawings.
  • Effective communication and organizational skills to coordinate with multiple project stakeholders and manage project data.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with Project Managers, BIM leadership, and engineering teams in a multidisciplinary environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Desired: Working knowledge of relevant industry codes and standards such as API, NFPA, BOCA, ANSI, and ASHRAE, including understanding where and how they apply.
  • Desired: Understanding of the functionality of common equipment used in chemical and industrial manufacturing processes.
  • Desired: Good understanding of and sensitivity to maintenance and constructability considerations in all design work.
  • Experience supporting projects for industrial clients in sectors such as chemical, tobacco, power, films, fibers, plastics, paper, pharmaceuticals, metals, food and beverage, and discrete manufacturing.
  • Ability to provide practical, technically sound solutions that support efficient construction and long-term maintenance.
Work Environment

This role is part of a collaborative, family-oriented engineering and design consulting environment with approximately 80 total employees. You will work closely with a small, highly experienced team that typically includes a department manager (professional engineer), senior engineers (professional engineers), and a senior structural designer. The position is an in-office role, Monday through Friday, located in an office setting in Midlothian, Virginia, near interstate 288 and Route 360. The firm operates as a private, family-owned, heavy industrial, multi-discipline engineering and design organization serving a wide range of industrial sectors. The culture emphasizes quality, collaboration, and long-term client relationships in a professional office environment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Midlothian, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $33.65/hr.
