CAD Designer / Drafter II – Oil & Gas

Position Summary

We are seeking a CAD Designer / Drafter II to support Oil & Gas engineering teams with drafting, updating, and maintaining technical documentation. This role plays a key part in a large-scale documentation update and document control initiative, including updates driven by 3D scanning and field verification activities.

The ideal candidate has strong AutoCAD experience, solid knowledge of P&IDs, and a high level of attention to detail, with the ability to support quality control and document accuracy across multiple engineering disciplines.


Key Responsibilities

  • Create, revise, and update engineering drawings, including:
  • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Piping layouts, plans, and related Oil & Gas documentation
  • Apply and manage redline (as-built) updates accurately
  • Support a large document control campaign, ensuring drawings meet quality and compliance standards
  • Perform quality checks (QC) and support quality assurance (QA) of technical documents
  • Assist engineers with documentation updates resulting from 3D scanning and site data
  • Maintain drawing consistency, version control, and documentation accuracy
  • Participate in occasional field visits to support verification and documentation updates
  • Collaborate closely with a team of engineers and stakeholders


Required Qualifications

  • Strong experience as a CAD Designer / Drafter, preferably in Oil & Gas or industrial environments
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD
  • Solid understanding of P&IDs and piping/instrumentation drawings
  • Working knowledge of document control processes
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to manage revisions, redlines, and controlled documents accurately
  • Willingness to live in or relocate to Carlsbad, NM


Preferred Qualifications

  • Oil & Gas industry experience
  • Experience using Bluebeam
  • Exposure to as-built documentation, 3D scanning, or laser scanning workflows
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but strong CAD/drafting experience without a degree is acceptable
