Overview:
We are seeking a Buyer to manage procurement and inventory for a metal-focused manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will have a background in purchasing steel, nickel, copper, or similar metals and experience in both professional office settings and on the shop floor.
Compensation:
- $70,000 – 80,000 annually
Schedule / Environment:
- Primarily office-based (professional environment)
- Occasional shop floor exposure for inventory, materials, or vendor/product interactions
Key Responsibilities:
Procurement
- Source suppliers using catalogs, commerce publications, and directories
- Understand and apply purchasing policies, processes, and procedures
- Negotiate best vendor terms, pricing, and delivery based on budgets and schedules
- Communicate with vendors regarding purchase orders, product info, availability, and delivery
- Prepare purchase orders and bid requests
- Review order status and follow up with vendors
- Resolve issues with purchase items, contracts, and vendor discrepancies
- Manage supplier audits and performance through Supplier Quality Program
- Evaluate suppliers on cost, quality, service, and reliability
Inventory Management
- Manage cycle counting process and report results
- Control stock obsolescence and ensure proper stocking levels
- Maintain raw material and supply inventories via Macola ERP
- Participate in physical inventory and assist other departments as needed
Reporting
- Report monthly on inventory accuracy, warehouse and raw material values, vendor lead times, and vendor quality/performance
- Track inventory transactions and plan actions to reduce obsolete or slow-moving materials
Other Responsibilities
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- Support shop floor activities when required while following all safety rules

Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years purchasing experience or demonstrated ability to perform procurement functions
- Experience in materials management and inventory control
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Background in steel/bar/pipe purchasing
- Experience with MRP and inventory control concepts
- Knowledge of Macola ERP and/or Crystal Reports
Physical Requirements / Work Environment
- Primarily sedentary
- Occasional shop floor or customer/vendor site work requiring adherence to safety protocols
