Overview

Axia Electric, is seeking an experienced Buyer to be based in our Riverside, CA office. In this role, you will focus on the acquisition, warehousing and delivery of all parts, equipment, services and supplies according to company standards and specifications at competitive prices.

Electrical Division

Since the early 1990s, Shimmick has been self-performing electrical scopes for infrastructure projects. In 2025 the Electrical Division rebranded to Axia Electric, a subsidiary to Shimmick Construction. Axia offers electrical, instrumentation, and process controls expertise for water and wastewater treatment; dams and locks; mass transit and rail; alternative energy; power generation and transmission; and commercial building projects. Our ability to self-perform this specialty offers additional value and enables us to better control cost and schedule for projects with major electrical and process mechanical scopes. Axia Electric, headquartered in Riverside, California, focuses on large public owners in several states, across water resources, water treatment, transportation and transit markets. Over the past decade, the division has grown tremendously, securing major projects, including the $350 million North City Pure Water Facility in San Diego and the $235 million EVMWD Regional Water Reclamation Facility Expansion Project in Lake Elsinore, CA.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Purchasing – Negotiates favorable terms, volume discounts and long-term contracts with suppliers, and prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders for the procurement of goods, services and supplies for customer-related business processes or for general internal use.
  • Responsible for the acquisition of parts, equipment, services and supplies according to company standards and specifications at competitive prices.
  • Category Management – Responsible for the development and execution of sourcing and supply chain strategies. The group coordinates all business activities to achieve buying decisions that deliver the highest quality, reliability, and value through the development of strong business relationships and strategic alliances, both internal and external.
  • Responsible for the management of subcontracted professional, construction, and general services. Negotiate favorable terms and develop risk mitigation strategy. Manage supplier performance against SOW
  • Under general supervision of daily work, purchases supplies and services from vendors at the lowest cost, according to company standards and specifications.
  • Prepares requests for proposals analyzes quotes received, selects vendors, schedules and expedites deliveries and follows up on invoices received.
  • This level requires a proven ability to apply professional concepts in a productive, consistent fashion.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree + 2 years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Negotiation experience, including indemnity, disputes, etc.
  • Contract experience within a heavy civil general contractor.
  • FARs (Federal Acquisition Regulations) and DFARS (Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement) experience.
  • ERP system experience (CMiC, JD Edwards, etc.).

The salary range for this position is between $80,000 - 90,000 per year depending on experience and/or education.
