POSITION SUMMARY: Buyer I purchases materials, supplies, and services at the most favorable terms for the organization. Qualifies vendors, evaluates bids, and negotiates prices and terms for purchased goods and services. Buyer I track purchases, ensuring quality standards, cost efficiencies, and timely deliveries of purchase orders, and maintain a current database of vendor information.
Advises Planning and Account Management teams of any delays with orders. Working with the department manager, Buyer I is expected to participate in complex tasks within the job functions in support of departmental goals and KPI’s.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Identify and source materials.
• Create and place purchase orders with vendors in a timely manner to avoid out of stocks.
• Track purchase orders and ensure timely delivery.
• Ensure confirmations for purchase orders are received in a timely manner.
• Review confirmations received and update purchase order information with any changes from
vendors such as due dates, pricing, quantity, etc.,
• Alert Director of Supply Chain Management of any problems with purchase order placed.
• Collaborate with the planning team and Account Management to ensure raw materials are
available to meet production schedules and forecasted demand.
• Provide Accounting with copies of purchase orders along with shipping changes for each
purchase order placed.
• Run open order report weekly to make sure no purchase orders are late.
• Work closely with quality assurance (QA) team to ensure all raw materials regulatory
standards and company specifications.
• Manage any non-conformance issues with suppliers, ensuring timely resolution of quality or
delivery problems.
• Work with Accounting on payable issues, typically when purchase orders do not match
invoices.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• High School Graduate or equivalent preferred.
• Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in the manufacturing industry.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively with vendors, customers, staff, and management.
• Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with
enthusiasm.
