Business Development Manager
International Freight Forwarding Dallas, TX
$90,000 – $120,000 Base + Uncapped Commission
ABOUT
We are representing a Japanese-founded, privately held global freight forwarder with a network spanning 41 countries and a U.S. operation that has been active since 1993, with their Dallas office established in 2002.
Their commercial strength sits across air and ocean freight serving the automotive, aerospace, high-tech, and industrial manufacturing sectors — all of which carry significant weight in the DFW market. The Dallas office operates in close proximity to DFW International Airport, one of the largest air cargo hubs in the United States, and handles a consistent volume of time-critical and high-value freight moving across transpacific and transatlantic trade lanes.
Their U.S. commercial team sits at eleven people across four offices. They are not a business that hires in volume. They hire selectively, support the people they bring in, and expect results in return. Their average client tenure in the U.S. sits at over six years, which reflects how they operate at both the sales and service level.
They are adding one Business Development Manager to the Dallas team. The territory has pipeline in it and the timing is deliberate.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Identify and develop new business opportunities across the Dallas-Fort Worth market through targeted prospecting, cold outreach, and in-person client visits, logging a minimum of ten CRM-recorded customer interactions per week, of which at least five must be first-time contacts.
- Complete a minimum of three to five face-to-face client visits per week, recorded and tracked in the CRM without exception.
- Manage the full sales lifecycle from initial discovery and needs analysis through to RFQ and RFP preparation, proposal delivery, and contract close.
- Present tailored air freight, ocean freight, and customs brokerage solutions built around each client's specific supply chain requirements, with particular focus on time-critical and high-value cargo across transpacific and transatlantic lanes.
- Work closely with internal operations and pricing teams to build competitive, margin-positive proposals and ensure a clean handover from sale to execution.
- Maintain an accurate and up-to-date pipeline, providing regular territory updates on activity, conversion progress, and revenue forecast to the regional commercial lead.
- Monitor the DFW freight market, competitor activity, and trade lane developments to identify and act on commercial opportunities ahead of the competition.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- A minimum of three years of business development experience within international freight forwarding, with a clear and verifiable track record of winning new business from scratch.
- No active non-solicitation or non-compete agreement.
- A willingness to work a minimum of three days per week from the Dallas office when not travelling.
- Strong knowledge of international trade lanes, Incoterms, and both air and ocean freight products. Experience selling into manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or high-tech sectors is a distinct advantage in this market.
- A disciplined, consistent approach to CRM usage and pipeline management. Activity must be recorded accurately and without prompting.
- Experience managing the full RFQ and RFP process and presenting logistics solutions to commercial decision-makers at senior level.
- A valid driving licence and access to a vehicle.
WHAT'S ON OFFER
- Base salary of $90,000 to $120,000 dependent on experience.
- Uncapped commission with no ceiling on earnings.
- Car allowance.
- Full benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
- A tenured operations team, a genuinely global network, and a back office that executes at the level this market demands.
