Position Overview:

PCI is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Business Development Intern to support our growing sales and business development team in Raleigh, NC. This is an exciting opportunity for a student interested in B2B sales strategy, market intelligence, and customer relationship management within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and life sciences industries. The intern will gain hands-on experience working alongside seasoned business development professionals in a highly regulated, technically driven environment.

Responsibilities of an Intern mayinclude:

CRM Management

  • Maintain and update client and prospect records within the company CRM system, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across all entries.
  • Track the status of leads, active opportunities, and client touchpoints to support pipeline visibility for the Business Development team.
  • Assist in building and organizing CRM workflows, including contact categorization by industry segment (e.g., pharmaceutical, biotech, medical device, R&D, and manufacturing).
  • Monitor and adjust contact outreach cadence based on team feedback, ensuring timely and appropriate follow-up across all prospect segments.
  • Generate CRM reports and summaries to help the team identify gaps, trends, and prioritization opportunities.

Market Research – Finding Opportunities

  • Conduct targeted market research to identify new business opportunities by geography, industry vertical, and service category (calibration, asset management, compliance services, etc.).
  • Analyze market trends, competitive landscape, and customer behavior to surface high-potential target accounts for the Business Development team.
  • Research industry events, conferences, and association activity (e.g., ISPE, PDA) to identify networking and lead generation opportunities.
  • Support territory planning by compiling and summarizing regional market data and prospect density by sector.

Market Research – Contact Research

  • Identify and profile key decision-makers and influencers at target accounts, including titles such as Facilities Managers, QA/QC Directors, Calibration Managers, and Procurement leads.
  • Utilize tools such as LinkedIn, ZoomInfo, and publicly available databases to build accurate contact lists for outbound prospecting campaigns.
  • Validate and enrich existing contact data in the CRM to improve outreach effectiveness and reduce bounce rates.
  • Compile organized prospect profiles including company background, relevant service needs, compliance environment, and potential entry points for the sales team.

🔹 Business Development Support

  • Collaborate with the Business Development team to align research outputs with regional priorities and strategic growth targets.
  • Assist in preparing client-facing materials, presentations, and proposal support documentation.
  • Participate in team meetings, contributing research findings and supporting strategic discussions.
  • Gain exposure to FDA regulations, cGMP standards, and industry compliance requirements as they relate to calibration and instrumentation services.

  • Tech-savvy: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with CRM platforms (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot) or LinkedIn Sales Navigator is a plus.
  • Detail-oriented: Meticulous about data entry accuracy, contact record quality, and research documentation.
  • Strong communicator: Effective in professional written and verbal communication with both internal team members and external contacts.
  • Self-starter: Able to manage research tasks independently while staying aligned with team priorities and deadlines.

Experience & Education Required:

Currently enrolled in an Associate's / Bachelor's degree program with a focus on Technical fields, Life Sciences, Business Administration, Marketing, or Communications, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior professional work experience helpful.

This position is temporary without benefits, may be part or full time depending on business need, and is a non-exempt position.
