Position Summary:
The Building Maintenance Technician is part of the Vanderbilt University Maintenance & Operations (VUMO) and is a key individual responsible for the ongoing maintenance and repair of a building or area. Building Maintenance Technicians need to have a good knowledge of building skills, including HVAC, plumbing, drywall installation, painting, and general building repair. The position reports directly to a Zone Manager. This is a great opportunity for candidates with a mechanical background or aptitude looking to gain experience in a wide range of facilities and trades skills, and who wants to expand their experience as a craftsman or technician.
About the Work Unit:
Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Cleaning Windows
Grinding Concrete
Pressure Washing
Ballard Rotation – Going around checking to make sure they are up or down.
Pick up outside furniture to bring back to the shop for the carpenter to fix.
Supervisory Relationships:
This position does not have supervisory responsibility, this position reports administratively and functionally to the Zone Manager.
Education and Certifications:
High School Graduate or GED is required
Experience and Skills:
Ability to work safely around equipment
Strong communication skills
Able to stand, stoop, crawl, work on elevated surfaces and be in awkward positions for extended periods of time.
Push, pull, lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
Able to work in various weather conditions
High work ethic
Ability to effectively communicate and follow written and oral instructions is Preferred
Ability to: change light bulbs, ballasts, fixtures, switches/plates, HVAC filters, thermostats, hang pictures, tighten screws on hardware, lubricate hinges and closures.
Touch up paint as needed.
Simple plumbing repairs.
Perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
