Job Summary:
Position Title: Combination Building Inspector II
Location: Santa Monica, 90404
Duration: 4 months
Schedule: 9/80
Working Schedule: 6:30am-4:00pm, Alternative Fridays are off.
Pay rate: $ 43.70 - $58.40
Candidate has not and has never been a CalPERS member (mandatory requirement).
Remarks: Will require driving their own/client vehicle
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- Conducts inspections of building, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work to ensure compliance with construction codes, local ordinances, and state laws, and approves work once corrections are completed.
- Provides guidance to the public and City staff on code requirements, application procedures, inspections, and required documentation.
- Reviews construction drawings (architectural, structural, electrical, etc.) to verify compliance prior to permit issuance.
- Meets with permit applicants to clarify review comments, explain requirements, and confirm corrections have been addressed.
- Monitors active construction projects to ensure compliance and prevent permit expiration prior to final approval.
- Ensures quality assurance processes, including special inspections and structural observations, are completed and properly documented.
- Collects and analyzes data to prepare reports, studies, and recommendations.
- Investigates and resolves complaints, coordinating with other departments and agencies as necessary.
- Maintains accurate and organized records, issues permit, updates tracking systems, and prepares correspondence and reports.
- Assists with enforcement actions, including preparing non-compliance cases for prosecution and testifying in court when required.

Skills

Education
- Graduation from high school or the equivalent. Two years of recent, paid work experience performing standard building inspections
Licenses and Certificates
- Possession of a valid Class C driver license. Certification by the International Code Council as a Commercial Building Inspector and possession of one of the following: Commercial Electrical, Commercial Plumbing, or Commercial Mechanical Inspector.
