What We're Looking For:   In addition to performing traditional transportation engineering duties, the BIM Technical Manager plays a key role in advancing technical excellence by collaborating with local BIM leadership, including technical managers, project managers, and engineering staff, to develop innovative, model-centric designs and workflows. This role focuses on integrating BIM for Infrastructure as a standard practice, implementing model-driven processes, and mentoring less experienced engineers. The Technical Manager is expected to demonstrate advanced expertise in one or more areas of highway engineering while building and maintaining a strong professional reputation within the industry. Strong technical and communication skills are essential, including the ability to develop, document, and effectively communicate technical processes across the office and region. The successful candidate will utilize state-of-the-practice tools, determine their appropriate application, and partner with technical and project managers to embed these tools into best practices adopted by project teams.   What You'll Do:
  • Serves as Technical Manager, Technical Lead, Project Engineer, and/or Advisor for local projects.
  • Provides technical leadership and guidance on complex and/or strategic projects throughout Ohio.
  • Assists with preparation of scope of work and fee proposals in their specialty subject matter area. 
  • Assists Department Manager and Project Managers as applicable on major or strategic pursuits, lending technical credibility/expertise to the pursuit team. 
  • Supports current clients to expand BIM/Digital Delivery services.
  • Supports projects where Michael Baker is developing BIM standards and processes for our clients, including interviewing DOT staff, drafting standards, and testing processes,
  • Supports development of tools and processes to provide clients services to pass design and construction information to asset inventories/management as part of a digital As-builts process to support operations, and asset management as they mature toward digital twins.
  • Prepares studies, construction documents, calculations, maps, reports and other documentation to support transportation design.
  • Prepares quantities, construction cost estimates, and detailed project specifications.
  • Prepares drawings for highways, structures, and multimodal projects.
  • Coordinates tasks and project schedules.
  • Communicates with clients regarding project issues, schedules, and budgets.
  • Leads meetings and coordinate action items for project deliverables.
  • Responsible for maintaining professional licensure.
  • Occasionally visits project sites, monitoring project progress.
What You Need to Succeed:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering is required. 
  • Minimum 8+ years of highway engineering related design experience including interest in the area of BIM and digital delivery
  • Strong Bentley ORD design/modeling skills are preferred with AutoCAD Civil 3D a potential substitute.
  • Working experience with Ohio DOT standards is preferred.
  • Must possess a valid Professional Engineering License.
  • Have the skills to perform QC Oversight responsibilities. This includes an understanding of the technical process, design and data requirements needed to provide those quality reviews.
  • Must demonstrate solid communication and relationship building skills, both internally and externally, to support change management while improving processes, leveraging technology, and supporting clients.
  • Ability to effectively network and influence at peer levels.
  • Ability to coach, mentor and upskill technical capabilities of less experienced staff.
  • Ability to demonstrate a strong commitment to adhering to scope, schedules and budgets. 
  • Strong background in ownership, initiative and dedication to high quality engineering services and client deliverables.
Compensation: 
  The approximate compensation range for this position is $101,502 to $146,561 per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
