Job Title: BIM Designer
Job Description

The BIM Designer will support technology engineering projects by producing high-quality construction drawings and models in Revit, with a strong focus on low voltage and technology systems for data centers and complex buildings. This role centers on modeling construction plans, details, smart schedules, and parametric Revit families, contributing to the full construction document phase in a fully remote or hybrid environment.

Responsibilities

  • Produce detailed technology construction drawings using Revit in alignment with project standards and requirements.
  • Model construction plans, details, and smart schedules to support low voltage and technology system designs.
  • Develop and modify parametric Revit families at LOD 200–400 to accurately represent technology and electrical components.
  • Support low voltage design work, including technology, telecommunications, and IT infrastructure systems within complex buildings.
  • Participate in the design and modeling of technology systems for data center projects, ensuring coordination with other disciplines.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of BIM models during the construction document phase for projects handled by design firms or contractors.
  • Collaborate with technology engineering and mission-critical teams to deliver level 300 models for data center and telecommunications projects.
  • Use BIM tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks to coordinate designs and resolve potential clashes.
  • Apply construction document standards and best practices while working within established workflows and templates.
  • Engage in initial training during the first week to learn internal Revit systems, families, and efficiency tools, and apply this knowledge to ongoing projects.
Essential Skills
  • 3–5 years of professional experience working within the BIM space.
  • Proficiency in Revit, including experience creating and modifying parametric families and models at LOD 200–400.
  • Experience supporting low voltage design work, particularly in technology and electrical systems.
  • Hands-on experience designing technology systems in Revit within a BIM environment.
  • Background supporting projects in Revit from an electrical and technology standpoint.
  • Exposure to data center projects and familiarity with mission-critical environments.
  • Experience working within the construction document phase, ideally at a design firm or in a contracting setting.
  • Ability to work with BIM and related tools such as AutoCAD and Navisworks.
  • Strong understanding of technology engineering concepts, IT infrastructure, and data center or telecommunications environments.
  • Capability to work independently in a remote setting while meeting deadlines and quality standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience with BIM or VDC roles within technology engineering firms, MEP engineering firms, or electrical contractors.
  • Familiarity with low and medium voltage design for complex building systems.
  • Experience with construction document production and coordination on technology-oriented projects.
  • Exposure to audio/visual, security systems, and broader IT infrastructure design within buildings.
  • Background working with mission-critical or data center clients and projects.
  • Comfort working in a rapidly growing, technology-focused engineering environment.
  • Interest in ongoing training and professional development through internal programs and tools.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams in a remote or hybrid setting.
Work Environment

This role offers a fully remote work environment for candidates located in the Midwest, with flexibility for those outside the local office area. The position does not require being local to Chicago; however, individuals who are local may work in a hybrid arrangement with in-office presence on Tuesdays and remote work on other days. The organization will ship all necessary equipment directly to the consultant, enabling a seamless remote setup. You will work primarily with Revit, along with tools such as Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and Navisworks, within a technology engineering team that focuses on data centers, telecommunications, and low/medium voltage systems. The company maintains an environment that emphasizes professional growth through structured training, including an internal design university program and a dedicated Revit efficiency team that develops custom tools to improve workflows. The culture supports collaboration across a mission-critical team, with most models produced at level 300 and a steady pipeline of data center projects.
