Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled Automation Technician – ASRS / AMR Systems to support the installation, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of advanced automated material handling systems, including Automated Storage & Retrieval Systems (ASRS) and Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs). This role is responsible for maximizing system uptime, supporting production operations, and performing preventive and corrective maintenance in a highly automated manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
System Operations & Support
- Monitor daily operation of ASRS and AMR systems to ensure safe and efficient material flow.
- Respond promptly to alarms, faults, and system stoppages to minimize downtime.
- Support production teams by ensuring automation systems meet throughput and uptime goals.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on ASRS cranes, conveyors, shuttles, lifts, and AMRs.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, and controls-related issues involving:
- PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar)
- Sensors, photoeyes, RFID, and vision systems
- Drives, motors, and industrial communication networks
- Replace worn or damaged components to maintain system reliability.
Automation Systems Support
- Assist engineering teams with commissioning, installation, and startup of ASRS and AMR systems.
- Support integration of AMRs with warehouse and manufacturing systems.
- Collaborate with WMS/WCS teams to resolve system interface issues.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify recurring failures and participate in root cause analysis.
- Implement corrective actions to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Provide feedback for system and process enhancements.
Documentation & Compliance
- Maintain maintenance records, PM logs, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Support development of SOPs, work instructions, and training materials.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Coordinate with Engineering, IT, Operations, and external vendors for issue resolution.
- Support vendor technicians during upgrades, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree or technical certification in Automation, Mechatronics, Electrical, Robotics, or related field; or equivalent hands-on experience.
- 3–7 years of experience in industrial automation, maintenance, or material handling systems.
- Hands-on experience with:
- ASRS systems (cranes, shuttles, conveyors, lifts)
- AMRs / AGVs
- PLC troubleshooting (Allen-Bradley / Siemens preferred)
- Strong understanding of:
- Electrical systems (24VDC, 480VAC)
- Sensors, actuators, and industrial controls
- Ability to read electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with WMS/WCS systems and automation integration.
- Familiarity with RFID, barcode scanning, and vision systems.
- Basic PLC logic or HMI troubleshooting experience.
- Experience in high-volume or regulated manufacturing environments (medical device preferred).
- Background working with automation integrators or OEM systems.
