This position serves as an Attorney 1-4 to the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), Bureau of Legal Services, in a senior attorney position in a highly responsible, legal, consultative, and administrative capacity. This position serves as senior counsel to the LDH Office of Public Health (OPH) and the State Health Officer (SHO) in matters pertaining to public health laws and the State Sanitary Code (SSC). The position incumbent acts as senior counsel to all offices/bureaus within OPH with the exception of the Center for Records and Statistics (Vital Records) and the Bureau of Engineering. This is a unique opportunity to take on a highly impactful role supporting critical public health initiatives across the state.

The incumbent in this position works closely with the Assistant Secretary of OPH, the State Health Officer, the OPH Chief Sanitarian, the Program Manager of the Section of Environmental Epidemiology and Toxicology (SEET), and the Director of the Center for Community Preparedness.

  • Serves as an Attorney for the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), providing senior-level legal, consultative, and administrative support.
  • Acts as senior counsel to the Office of Public Health (OPH) and the State Health Officer (SHO) on matters related to public health laws and the State Sanitary Code (SSC).
  • Provides legal guidance and support to all OPH offices and bureaus, with the exception of the Center for Records and Statistics (Vital Records) and the Bureau of Engineering.
  • Advises leadership on the interpretation, application, and compliance of public health laws, regulations, and policies.
  • Collaborates closely with executive leadership, including the Assistant Secretary of OPH and the State Health Officer, to support public health initiatives.
  • Works with key program leaders, including the OPH Chief Sanitarian, SEET Program Manager, and Center for Community Preparedness Director, to address legal matters and program needs.
  • Supports critical statewide public health efforts by providing legal counsel that informs decision-making and ensures regulatory compliance.

Compensation: This position is eligible for the following Special Entrance Rates (SER)

Attorney 1 – $30.33 hr / $2,426.40 bi-weekly

Attorney 2 – $32.45 hr / $2,596.00 bi-weekly

Attorney 3 – $36.51 hr / $2,920.80 bi-weekly

Attorney 4 – $39.07 hr / $3,125.60 bi-weekly
