Under the direction of the Medical Director, the Associate Medical Director of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe Health Services Division (PYT-HSD) Centered Spirit Program (CSP) supports the medical care perspective and knowledge of clinical care issues to guide decisions concerning health care objectives, program management, and resource allocation. The incumbent is responsible and accountable for planning and assessment, identifying goals and targets, drafting policies and procedures, providing oversight to implement plans, and serving as a liaison to ensure collaboration for CSP, specifically the New Beginnings Opiate Treatment Program.
- Provide administrative leadership and clinical services for the New Beginnings Program and Centered Spirit Program, ensuring high-quality care and effective program management.
- Supervise New Beginning staff to include prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained and follow policies and procedures, maintaining a healthy and safe working environment, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. This includes having supervisory authority over medical provider staff, in medical policies and procedures, which may not be under the direct line of supervision.
- Assure the New Beginning clinical program maintains an ongoing monitoring system to ensure the provision of quality standards of care.
- Ensure program compliance with all applicable federal, state, tribal, and accreditation requirements, including DEA, CARF, SAMHSA, and related regulatory standards.
- Coordinate and supervise the New Beginning Opiate Treatment Program.
- Provide clinical services to provide direct patient care at the Walupe Health Center in Guadalupe, Arizona, as part of service development for the region.
- Maintain designated clinical office hours to provide direct patient care in other CSP services, including outpatient clinics, residential treatment homes, and any additional locations as deemed necessary by HSD executive leadership.
- Participate in the drafting, development, revision, and approval of policies and procedures for the New Beginning programs. This includes participating in the HSD Policy and Procedure Committee.
- Provide after-hours call coverage for the New Beginning Program.
- Participate in monitoring the program for cost effectiveness.
- Participate in the improvement of organizational structure and enhance communication to ensure departmental goals are clearly defined, understood, and communicated to employees.
- Facilitate communication between the New Beginning Program and the Tucson medical community.
- Maintain regular communication with the El Rio Pascua Clinic Medical Director, clinic manager, and staff on issues relevant to coordinating the services provided by the Tribe.
- Participate in reviews of health information records to support high-quality health care delivery through accurate and comprehensive documentation.
- Participate in IHS activities and programs to evaluate present and future health care planning for New Beginning care planning as directed by the HSD Medical Director.
- Consult or collaborate on HSD on Clinical Accreditation and research projects.
- All other administrative duties assigned by the HSD Executive Director, HSD Medical Director, or designee.
- Perform other duties assigned as requested by the HSD Executive Director and Medical Director.

M.D. or D.O. required and completed residency training in any medical specialty (Psychiatry is preferred); two (2) years of clinical experience in an outpatient care setting and a minimum of three (3) years of managerial and administrative experience in a health care setting preferred.
AND- Training or experience in addiction medicine is preferred.
- Work history with the American Indian/Native American population.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver’s License.
Special Requirements:- Must possess and maintain a current, active license to practice Medicine. Failure to maintain a current MD, DO, or Nurse Practitioner Licensure will result in removal from this position.
- Must have a current First Aid and CPR card or be able to obtain certification within ninety (90) days of hire;
- Must possess and maintain a current, active Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Certificate with ability to prescribe Schedule II controlled substances. Failure to maintain a current DEA registration up to and including Schedule II substances will result in termination.
- This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends, including providing after-hours call coverage for the New Beginning Program.
- Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card and Homeland Security Background Check or be able to obtain one within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain the current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
