The Associate Director – Global Patient Safety is a strategic technology thought leader responsible for engaging GPS business and Tech@Lilly leaders, project sponsors/owners, external IT suppliers, and strategic partners to lead the IT design and support of the Global Patient Safety portfolio focused on Safety Science, Lilly Safety Link (LSL), and other business critical applications. GPS is transforming into modern architecture to meet GPS business and technology strategic outcomes. As we modernize to a new Adverse Event (AE) Database and Signal Management & Detection application, integration across the portfolio and maintaining inspection will be critical for success. This role drives the scoping and requirements for releases in partnership with the steering committee, business and Tech@Lilly stakeholders, and delivery teams. This leader brings high learning agility to gain a deep understanding of the interconnections across Case Management, Signal Management and Detection, and Safety Reporting — shaping the GPS technology vision, influencing portfolio strategy, and serving as a trusted advisor to business and technology leaders alike. The ideal candidate combines technical breadth, people leadership excellence, and the learning agility to stay ahead of an evolving pharmacovigilance technology landscape. This position reports to Boris Golubov, Senior Director - Global Patient Safety Tech@Lilly, Medicines Development.
Key Responsibilities
Solution Delivery Management
Provide project oversight, vendor contract facilitation, CIR execution, System Custodian ownership for multiple critical system within Safety. Lead end-to-end delivery across a primarily SaaS-based portfolio with targeted custom development, ensuring solutions are scalable, compliant, and aligned to GPS strategic goals Oversee data migration planning and execution as GPS transitions from legacy systems to modern platforms, ensuring data integrity, traceability, and audit-readiness throughout Own end-to-end compliance for regulated and operational system requirement changes within Arugs and other critical systems within Safety, ensuring alignment with applicable regulatory standards. Communicate with business and Tech@Lilly stakeholders and team members regarding system status, project status, plans, issues, and resolutions Share best practices and lessons learned across the organization, positioning the GPS technology function as a center of excellence Develop strong relationships with internal service owners, service providers, and supplier managers Maintain strong focus on quality and value delivery in each system release
Business Partnership & Strategy
Build and maintain positive relationships with business partners, identifying customer needs and ensuring delivery capabilities meet these needs Serve as a thought leader and trusted advisor to GPS business and Tech@Lilly leaders, proactively shaping technology strategy and influencing investment priorities aligned to business outcomes Partner with business stakeholders to develop strategy, release plans, and business priorities for information delivery Develop a comprehensive understanding of the end-to-end GPS portfolio — including the interconnections across Case Management, Signal Management and Detection, and Safety Reporting — to anticipate integration challenges and guide cross-portfolio decisions Understand, anticipate, elicit, and influence customer demand for information services Lead the development of quality and resilient specifications for new or improved services or capabilities Lead in creating and delivering a strategy that dramatically improves efficiency and effectiveness of core service management capabilities through automation and AI.
Resource Management
Manage performance through coaching, motivation, performance management, career planning, and talent identification Develop Tech@Lilly area strategies and objectives, encouraging adoption of Tech@Lilly best practices and standardized processes Develop business proposals for improving utilization of existing assets with focus on driving value Cultivate a high-performing, learning-agile team culture that stays ahead of emerging pharmacovigilance technologies, cloud platforms, and industry trends Manage Tech@Lilly people (staffing strategy, resource capacity, recruiting, and hiring) and budgets to meet objectives Communicate direction by prioritizing work within Tech@Lilly portfolio of projects and reinforcing compliance
Vendor & Financial Management
Manage strategic relationships with key SaaS providers, implementation partners, and service suppliers, driving performance accountability and SLA adherence Lead vendor performance reviews, contract negotiations, and escalations to protect organizational interests and maximize value Evaluate vendor and platform roadmaps, providing thought leadership on how emerging capabilities can advance the GPS technology strategy Manage budgets and financial processes for projects and teams Build and present business cases for new investments, identifying value drivers, risk mitigation, and return on investment Identify cost optimization opportunities and ensure portfolio spend aligns with strategic priorities
Basic Qualifications
-Bachelor's degree in computer science, drug development-related field, or equivalent work experience
-5+ years of experience in IT solution delivery, including SaaS platform management and/or application development
-3 years of people leadership experience with demonstrated success building and developing teams
Preferred Qualifications
Experience delivering solutions in highly regulated GxP and/or GMP quality environments where audit-readiness is paramount
Demonstrated experience with data migration projects, including planning, execution, and validation in regulated environments Foundational knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure), including hybrid cloud and SaaS deployment models
Proven vendor management experience, including contract facilitation and supplier relationship management
Demonstrated financial management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, and business case development
Experience as a system custodian for enterprise systems, including ownership of system updates and maintenance, ensuring data integrity and quality, and upholding governance and compliance standards across the system lifecycle.
Previous successful people leadership roles demonstrated with a track record of developing talent and building high-performing teams
Deep understanding and prior experience leading delivery of new systems and support of legacy systems, including modernization and platform replacement programs
Experience supporting or delivering pharmacovigilance, drug safety, or clinical development technology solutions (e.g. Adverse Event management, Signal Detection, Safety Reporting)
Demonstrated ability to communicate with business staff and leaders and translate needs into appropriate Tech@Lilly systems and processes
Demonstrated thought leadership — ability to shape and influence technology strategy, contribute to industry conversations, and bring an external perspective to internal challenges
Ability to partner cross-functionally and work across various affiliates and regions
Strong leadership and customer interaction skills with demonstrated ability to build and sustain executive-level relationships
Experience managing relationships with key software and service providers and building successful relationships with industry collaborators
Demonstrated ability to think creatively about complex business problems and resolve through new approaches Experience developing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans
Experience with various project management delivery methodologies and iterative release planning AWS or Azure cloud certification (Fundamentals level or above)

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
$132,000 - $193,600Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
