Occupational Summary: The Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for student-focused services, including recruitment, admissions, enrollment management, financial aid, advising, registration, student success, and overall student well-being. Key responsibilities include developing strategic enrollment policies and practices, managing budgets and staff, ensuring regulatory compliance (i.e. FERPA, ADA), enhancing the DUSON student experience, and fostering collaboration within the school and across campus departments to support student access, retention, and completion. The Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management partners with the leaders in the Student Success Center (SSC), the Admissions Office, Financial Aid Office, Institutional Research, and Student Services Office to ensure effective programming. The Associate Dean also oversees issues related to student conduct and safety in partnership with other school leaders. This position reports to Dean.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Strategic Leadership:

Develop and implement comprehensive enrollment and student affairs plans to meet institutional goals for student recruitment, retention and progression, professional development, and academic success. Strategically develop and facilitate implementation of faculty and staff programming that promotes student wellness and successful academic and professional progression.

Enrollment Management:

Oversee the student enrollment process across prelicensure, MSN and DNP programs, including admissions inquiries and outreach, recruitment initiatives, operations, application review and admission of candidates. Partners with the director of financial aid to ensure student aid packages are released in a timely manner to help support yield of admitted students. Also partners with Marketing and Communications team and with the academic program Assistant Deans, admission chairs and admissions committee to strategically plan outreach and communication to prospective students.

Student Support Services:

Partner with various leaders of the Student Success Center and Student Services Office to support the development and delivery of services related to advising, student life, academic support, career planning, and student conduct. Partners with academic leaders and other school leaders support the Duke Honor Code, DUSON Academic Standards, the DUSON Academic Integrity and Professionalism Policy, and the Civility and Professional Conduct standards as outlined in the DUSON student handbooks.

Staff Supervision:

Manage, mentor, and develop professional staff, directors, and support teams within student affairs, student success, admissions, institutional research, and financial aid.

Financial Aid

Partners with the Director of Financial Aid office to ensure compliance with all federal, state, and/or philanthropic regulations related to financial aid. Support the timely issuance of financial aid packages to admitted students. Also partners with the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Affairs to assist with stewardship processes for scholarship award recipients.

Institutional Research

Provide strategic oversight for the Office of Institutional Research by partnering with the Director of Institutional Research, guiding priorities and resource allocation, and supporting the development and maintenance of Tableau reporting. Lead the creation and execution of longterm plans to strengthen the impact of the IR function across DUSON, including evaluating stakeholder satisfaction with IR services and identifying opportunities for enhanced data quality, accessibility, and decisionsupport.

Fiscal Management:

Collaborates with unit leaders to prepare, manage, and monitor budgets for the admissions office, student success, student services, and financial aid/institutional research offices to ensure efficient and effective use of resources. Prepares grants and contributes to proposals to secure external funding for programs and activities.

Data & Technology Management:

Oversee the use of student information systems (SIS) and customer relationship management (CRM) platforms used by the admissions, student services and financial aid offices to ensure seamless data integrity and support strategic decision-making. Analyze data and trends to inform decision-making and refine recruitment, retention and progression efforts. Provides strategic thinking and oversight to accelerate integration of AI into workflow and processes.

Policy & Compliance:

Develop and ensure adherence to policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with federal regulations (e.g., FERPA, ADA), state laws, and accreditation standards.

Campus Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and other campus partners (University Registrar, OIE, CAPS) to integrate student services and support institutional priorities.

Student Experience:

Enhance the holistic student experience from recruitment through graduation, fostering a welcoming and supportive campus environment. Helps to support student personal and professional development by fostering an environment of openness and inclusion.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Serve on various DUSON and University committees as assigned.
  • Collaborate with student organizations, affinity groups and student organizations to build a sense of community.

Required Qualifications

Education: An earned bachelors degree is required. An earned graduate in higher education, business, administration, or closely related field is preferred.

Experience: A minimum of eight (8) years of progressive leadership experience in higher education is required; experience in a school of nursing and/or health professions education is preferred. Direct service and/or administrative experience in two or more areas related to this position is also required.
