Associate Attorney

VBPena Law, PLLC
Round Rock, TX

From trial strategy to appellate briefs—we like lawyers who think ahead.

Our boutique firm focuses on business and construction litigation and appeals, and we’re looking for a driven associate attorney (1–5 years) who enjoys rigorous legal analysis, strong writing, and continual learning. This role offers direct mentorship, substantive responsibility, and a sustainable path for growth.

Company Description

We are a boutique litigation firm, with a strong belief that the best lawyers are trial lawyers. Trial work demands more than technical skill—it requires judgment, preparation, and presence. The ability to think on your feet, communicate clearly under pressure, and connect with judges, juries, and clients is at the core of how we practice law. Our firm values lawyers who are charismatic without ego, likable without being performative, and relentlessly hardworking. We believe credibility is built through preparation, integrity, and the willingness to do the unglamorous work exceptionally well.

VBPena Law, PLLC is dedicated to providing exceptional legal services with a personalized approach. Situated in Round Rock, TX, the firm focuses on delivering expert counsel tailored to the unique needs of its clients. Known for its commitment to excellence and integrity, VBPena Law offers innovative and pragmatic solutions to complex legal challenges. The firm fosters a collaborative and supportive work environment that values professional growth and client satisfaction.

Role Description

As an associate at our firm, your work will be hands‑on, varied, and substantive. No two days look exactly the same, but typical responsibilities include:

  • Drafting and arguing motions and briefs in business and construction disputes, with an emphasis on clear, persuasive writing and practical legal analysis
  • Working closely with senior counsel on case strategy, including preparing cases with trial and appeal in mind from the outset
  • Conducting legal research and applying it thoughtfully to real‑world problems—not just finding the law, but using it effectively
  • Preparing discovery, including written discovery, deposition preparation, and document review with a strategic purpose
  • Participating in court appearances, hearings, mediations, and trial preparation as your experience grows
  • Assisting with appellate work, including issue spotting, record review, and drafting appellate briefs
  • Communicating with clients, opposing counsel, and courts in a professional, confident, and personable manner
  • Learning by doing—taking ownership of assignments while receiving mentorship, feedback, and guidance along the way

This role is well‑suited for an attorney who wants to become a real trial or appellate lawyer: someone who is comfortable thinking on their feet, values preparation, and understands that credibility and likability matter just as much as legal acumen.

You’ll be challenged, trusted, and supported—and expected to work hard—but within a firm culture that respects balance, collaboration, and long‑term growth.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Legal Research and the ability to analyze and interpret legal documents
  • Skilled in providing sound Legal Advice and guiding clients through legal processes
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Texas
  • Former law clerk or journal experience is a plus
