Associate Attorney – Commercial Litigation

Mitby Pacholder Johnson PLLC (MPJ) is seeking a highly motivated Associate Attorney (2–7 years of experience) to join our Houston-based litigation boutique.

MPJ is Chambers-ranked in both Litigation and Intellectual Property, recognized as a standout Texas boutique for handling complex, high-stakes disputes. Our team combines seasoned commercial trial lawyers, licensed patent attorneys, and former general counsel to tackle sophisticated legal issues across industries including energy, oil and gas, chemicals, healthcare, technology, construction, and real estate development.

Associates at MPJ work directly with experienced trial lawyers and contribute meaningfully to litigation strategy, discovery, depositions, and trial preparation. Associates are given significant responsibility early and, unlike many larger firms, take an active role in litigation strategy while gaining meaningful experience with depositions, hearings, and trial preparation.

This is a primarily in-office role based in downtown Houston, and the ideal candidate will be eager to collaborate in person and actively participate in trial preparation and courtroom work.

What You’ll Do

• Work on all phases of complex commercial litigation, from case development through trial
• Draft motions, pleadings, and briefs in high-stakes disputes
• Conduct legal research and strategic case analysis
• Manage discovery and participate in depositions
• Assist with trial preparation and arbitration proceedings
• Work directly with partners on case strategy and client matters

Qualifications

• Must have 2–7 years of litigation experience
• J.D. from an accredited law school
• Licensed in Texas
• Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced litigation environment

• Experience handling substantive litigation work, including motion drafting and discovery management
