Job Title: Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer (Traveling)Job DescriptionThis traveling Assistant Project Manager / Project Engineer role supports large-scale construction projects across the country, with an initial focus on a major wastewater/biogas renewable plant in Burley, Idaho. You will work closely with the Project Manager and Construction Manager to help deliver complex projects on time, within budget, and to high quality standards. The position starts as a work-from-home role until projects fully mobilize mid-summer, then transitions to a site-based assignment that may last over a year. This role is ideal for a driven construction professional who enjoys field work, detailed coordination, and frequent travel.
Responsibilities
- Support the Project Manager and Construction Manager in delivering the full project scope of work and implementing construction activities in the field.
- Work from home initially and then transition to full-time onsite presence once the project mobilizes, maintaining consistent communication with the project team.
- Be familiar with the project scope, schedule, drawings, and specifications to understand all project deliverables and effectively support project execution.
- Assist in preparing and processing submittals and Requests for Information (RFIs), and maintain accurate logs and weekly status updates for both.
- Coordinate with the Construction Manager and project team on schedule activities, perform daily schedule updates, and help ensure the master project schedule remains current and accurate.
- Support the Project Manager with change orders, budget updates, and cost tracking, even though you do not hold primary financial responsibility.
- Assist in writing Methods of Procedure (MOPs) to plan work in a way that protects ongoing plant operations and clearly communicates execution steps to vendors, contractors, and the owner.
- Track equipment deliveries, log missing or damaged equipment, and coordinate with contractors on storage and maintenance of project equipment.
- Participate in and help lead subcontractor and vendor coordination meetings, including preparing meeting agendas, recording meeting minutes, and following up on action items.
- Generate daily field reports that document progress, issues, safety observations, and site conditions, including taking photos and maintaining thorough documentation.
- Support and promote all safety programs, trainings, and policies, and help manage the safety and health of project team members, subcontractors, and visitors.
- Ensure subcontractors, vendors, and site personnel adhere to safety standards and maintain a safe working environment, including completing required safety reports and analyses.
- Understand contract terms and conditions for purchase orders and assist the Project Manager in ensuring vendors meet their contractual deliverables.
- Assist with the coordination and development of the final Commissioning Plan, including owner training, project closeout activities, as-built documentation, and start-up checklists.
- Communicate proactively with team members, offering help and support to co-workers and field staff as needed to keep the project moving forward.
- Assist with general facility-related tasks as needed, including helping with the maintenance of onsite facilities and ensuring office supplies are stocked and organized.
Essential Skills- Experience in construction or construction management, with a focus on field-based project support.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently and remain on project sites for extended periods, potentially over a year.
- Preferred 3 years of relevant construction experience, with consideration for candidates with 1–2 years of strong, related experience.
- Experience with RFIs, submittals, and construction reporting, including daily reports and meeting documentation.
- Familiarity with project scheduling concepts and the ability to assist with daily schedule updates and coordination.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to maintain logs, track equipment deliveries, and manage multiple concurrent tasks.
- Ability to read and understand construction drawings, specifications, and project scope documents.
- Commitment to safety and the ability to support and enforce safety policies and procedures on active construction sites.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for preparing meeting agendas, minutes, daily reports, and coordination with subcontractors and vendors.
- Self-motivated, proactive work style with a willingness to assist in any capacity needed to support project success.
Additional Skills & Qualifications- Experience with Procore or similar construction management software.
- Industrial construction experience, particularly on large, complex facilities such as wastewater, biogas, or renewable energy plants, is preferred.
- Experience with larger ground-up construction projects is strongly valued and may be considered in place of industrial experience.
- Familiarity with developing Methods of Procedure (MOPs) or similar planning documents for work in active facilities.
- Exposure to commissioning, project closeout processes, and coordination of owner training and as-built documentation.
- Experience tracking and managing equipment deliveries, including documentation of missing or damaged materials.
- General understanding of construction contracts, purchase orders, and vendor deliverables.
- Comfort working both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary project team in a fast-paced environment.
Work EnvironmentThis is a traveling, field-focused role supporting large-scale construction projects across the United States. The first major assignment is a $300 million wastewater/biogas renewable plant project located in Burley, Idaho, where you may remain onsite for more than a year. The position begins as a work-from-home role until project mobilization in mid-summer, then transitions to a full-time onsite schedule. Standard project hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, with the expectation that you are present on site during these hours. While not routine, occasional evening or weekend work may be required to meet project needs. You will work closely with onsite construction teams, subcontractors, and vendors in an active construction environment that emphasizes safety, clear communication, and teamwork. The role involves regular use of construction management tools and software such as Procore or similar platforms, along with standard office and field documentation tools. Travel, extended stays on site, and coordination in dynamic field conditions are core aspects of this position.

Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr.
