The San Bernardino Valley College (SBVC) Science Division seeks an innovative faculty member with a demonstrated commitment to student success for a full-time tenure track position. The selected individual will provide high-quality instruction and contribute to the academic, professional, and institutional life of the college. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, equity, student success, and collaborative governance.
Representative Duties:The following duties are typical of those performed by faculty in this classification. Other duties may be assigned as appropriate.
- Teach assigned lectures, skills labs, and clinical courses in the Nursing program in a manner consistent with the department’s standards and content cited in the approved course outline of record, to a diverse student population.
- Acquire and maintain education and skills necessary for competency to teach Nursing
- Teach, supervise and evaluate students in theory and clinical settings and serve as the liaison with professionals in the clinical setting.
- Remain current in the subject matter areas and in the techniques of effective instruction through clinical experience, professional development and application of technology to education.
- Maintain Current California Register Nursing license
- Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college and district committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program.
- Participate in co-curricular activities, including planning, implementing, and teaching in special programs designed to support student success.
- Participate in the formulation and assessment of Student Learning Outcomes (SLO's).
- Maintain formal office and campus hours and participate in department and division meetings.
- Teach scheduled classes and perform related duties as assigned, including timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities; comply with district, college and division.
- Develop culturally relevant course content, culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and effective practices for engaging students who are diverse and/or are students who are historically underserved. The ideal candidate should have experience in this area with African American, Latinx, Native Americans, Pacific Islanders and other disproportionately impacted students.
- Work cooperatively with staff and students.
- Evening and/or weekend assignments may be required as part of the regular contract.
Minimum Qualifications:(To be specified in accordance with California Community Colleges Chancellor’s Office Faculty Minimum Qualifications):Master’s in nursing
OR Bachelor’s in Nursing AND Master’s in health education or health science.
OR the equivalent OR The minimum qualifications as set by the Board of Registered Nursing.
Experience that indicates a sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical and learning disabilities.
Desired Qualifications:- Prior teaching experience in a community college.
- Experience teaching across modalities. (classroom, clinical, simulation, online)
- Curriculum development and student learning outcomes (SLO) assessment experience.
- Experience integrating simulation and skills-lab instruction.
- Recent clinical nursing practice in assigned specialty. (e.g., med-surge, psych, OB, ped's)
- Experience working with diverse, first-generation, and underrepresented students.
The person selected for hire will be required to complete the following pre-employment requirements:
- Submit to and successfully pass DOJ live scan/fingerprinting. Cost of live-scan services to be borne by candidate.
- Sealed official transcript(s) in envelope from institution or electronic copies emailed directly from institution (for positions with higher education requirement)
- Tuberculosis (TB) risk assessment
- Employment verification(s) (for salary placement on faculty salary schedule)

Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements is mandatory to be eligible for employment. These requirements are in accordance with the San Bernardino Community College District’s Administrative Procedures and Board Policies.
