The Assistant Director of Financial Aid is a key contributor to meeting university goals for recruitment, retention, and superior student-centered service by assisting students and families in navigating forms, technology, and deadlines associated with applying for and receiving and maintaining financial aid eligibility. This position will communicate and disseminate financial aid information, policies and procedures to students and families via email, phone, and through in-person and virtual meetings. The Assistant Director will be responsible for administration of federal, state, and institutional financial aid programs and work closely with the Director and Associate Director of Financial Aid to ensure compliance with all rules and regulations governing financial aid administration.

The Assistant Director will be responsible for full and direct oversight of the administration of Federal Pell Grant Program. Responsibilities including verifying eligibility in accordance with federal need analysis methodology and federal program eligibility requirements, including monitoring for unusual enrollment history, multiple recording records, lifetime eligibility usage, potential over-award process, freeze/census date monitoring, changes to enrollment, and mismatches. Weekly, monthly, and annual reconciliation of internal awards with federal records, troubleshooting award and disbursement issues, and verifying disbursement records are accurate are vitally important to successful program administration.


The Assistant Director will also be responsible for administration of the Pennsylvania National Guard Educational Assistance Program (EAP) and the Pennsylvania National Guard Military Family Education Program (MFEP). Administration of these programs requires a thorough understanding of the program policies and requirements. Development and updates of institutional policy and procedures may be necessary on an annual basis, as guidelines change. The Assistant Director will be responsible for maintenance of program rosters, adding awards to student records, reporting tuition and fees and enrollment information to PHEAA, and assisting in completion of reconciliation, reporting, and auditing activities.


The Assistant Director will also be responsible for processing private/alternative student loans. The Assistant Director must be knowledgeable and familiar with federal and state regulations regarding private lending and stay updated on private lending regulations, as each lender may have different eligibility requirements. Responsibilities related to processing of private loans includes reviewing student records to verify eligibility and enrollment, verifying cost of attendance and other aid eligibility, troubleshooting disbursement issues, and working closely with lenders and Student Billing to resolve issues or questions

The Assistant Director of Financial Aid must have a bachelor’s degree and at least one year of experience in administration of financial aid, higher education administration, or a related field. Three years of student success or customer service experience is required.


The ideal candidate will have experience in Banner Financial Aid, Ellucian Student Financial Success (formerly Campus Logic), Federal Student Aid Systems (including Common Origination & Disbursement System (COD), National Student Loan Database Systems (NSLDS), FAFSA Partner Portal (FPP)), ELMOne, and PHEAA systems.
