The Assistant Controller plays a key role in supporting the financial operations of a $100M distribution and delivery services organization. This position is responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, strengthening internal controls, and supporting business scalability. A critical component of this role is hands-on experience with ERP system implementations, upgrades, or major optimizations, working closely with finance, operations, and IT to ensure system integrity and process alignment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Support the Controller in managing day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial reporting
  • Lead and execute accounting-related aspects of ERP implementation, upgrade, or optimization initiatives, including system testing, data migration, process mapping, and user training
  • Ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare and review financial statements, management reports, and variance analyses
  • Strengthen and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures to support a growing organization
  • Partner with operations, logistics, and delivery leadership to ensure proper revenue recognition, cost accounting, and inventory or delivery-related accounting accuracy
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow analysis
  • Coordinate with external auditors during annual audits and support tax compliance efforts
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, automate workflows, and leverage ERP system capabilities
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and development support


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred)
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in distribution, logistics, transportation, or delivery services environments
  • Recent, hands-on ERP implementation or major system upgrade experience required
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
  • Experience with month-end close, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with finance, operations, and IT teams
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in high-volume transaction environments
  • Exposure to inventory, freight, fuel, or delivery-related cost accounting
  • Public accounting background a plus
  • Experience supporting scalable growth
