POSTING DATE: 12/05/2025 POSITION: Assistant Clinic Supervisor CLOSING DATE: Open until filled STATUS: Full Time / Non-Exempt REQUIRED EXPERIENCE : Six months to one year of animal handling in an animal shelter or vet clinic with customer service REQUIRED EDUCATION: High school diploma and training in an animal care facili ty or veterinary office PREFERRED: Licensed Veterinary Technician BASE PAY: DOE JOB DESCRIPTION The Assistant Clinic Supervisor is responsible for documenti ng and evaluating the health status and temperamen t of the animals in our care; ensure approved, appropriate medical interventions are provided; maintain communication s with veterinarians providing services; and training, supervision, and deployment of animal health support staff. Supporting and under the direction of the Clinic Supervisor. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ● Evaluates animals daily to identify any possible illness, in jury, or infection to determine the degree of intervention required. Communicates these issues to the Veterin arians on duty and other medical staff. ● Works collaboratively with clinic technicians and other shelte r personnel to achieve a healthy environment for the animals we serve by effectively disinfecting to minimize the spread of disease and following appropriate PPE protocols. ● Monitors/Coordinates/Participates in the receiving process of an imals (includes properly completing necessary paperwork In a prescribed manner) into the shelter including bu t not limited to: vaccinations, venipuncture, bathing, grooming, deworming, skin scraping, and other dutie s as assigned ● Assists in monitoring equipment for proper operation (bloodwo rk machines, woods lamps, water treadmill, x-ray unit, chemical mixers, hose units, microscope, etc). Learns proper ma intenance procedures for all equipment. ● Assists in supervising, training, and deploying clinic staff a s to provide for their growth and to maximize their potential for the good of the shelter, and participate s in new hire orientation ● Assists in developing policies and procedures in conjunction w ith the Clinic Supervisor, Medical Manager, and SAHS veterinarians to ensure animal health and maintain a safe environment ● Assists in Monitoring/Coordinating in preparing/setting up animal kennels and related equipment for cage change-outs or newly arriving animals according to specific instructi ons ● Assists in overseeing the administration of all medications to shelter animals. Responsible for basic medication calculations, record keeping, and knowledge of al l medical protocols. ● Capable of monitoring surgical patients during procedures a nd recovery. Knowledgeable of CPR procedures in cases of emergency. ● Responsible for maintaining accurate and timely monitoring of supplies and ordering these from distributors alongside Clinic Supervisor. ● Responsible for maintaining the electronic controlled drug log and performing monthly controlled drug inventory alongside Clinic Supervisor. ● Responsible for coordinating and completing monthly invent ory of supplies and submitting in point of sale system alongside Clinic Supervisor. ● Responsible for learning accurate data entry, appointment reservation software, text messaging alert software, and point of sales systems. Responsible for data entry of all veterinary and medical treatments and notes. ● Assists in supervising and delegating assisting staff and volu nteers. Provides assistance and training to veterinary technician externs. ● Provides accurate information and friendly courteous service to th e public and ensures that others working in the animal habitats display the same courteous service ● Regularly conducts and participates in meetings with other members of the staff and shares ideas and suggestions designed to improve working conditions and the org anization ● Consistently strives to keep abreast of animal care and protect ion issues, and new techniques, procedures, and equipment in the field ● Treats animals humanely, responsibly, with care and concern b oth on and off the job and transmits these values to others ● Responsible for ensuring the comfort, safety and well-being of all shelter animals including performing hourly walkthroughs of medical animals and isolation patients to ma intain this standard of care. ● Assumes responsibility for the humane treatment of animals, moni tors the shelter for signs of disease and initiates appropriate procedures to deal with health issues ● Performs or assists with the euthanasia of animals by injection as required. If not currently euthanasia certified, must be willing to become so. ● Responsible for monitoring staff hours and submitting payrol l approvals alongside Clinic Supervisor ● Performs other duties as required to ensure a positive public i mage and to improve the functioning of this organization as assigned by the management ● Must support and demonstrate the agency’s core values – Customer Service, Adaptability, Respect, Responsibility, Integrity, and Compassion EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES ● Client Education o Provides accurate information and friendly professional service t o the public and to co-workers in a positive, courteous, truthful and tactful manner. Capable of problem-solving and conflict resolution. o Maintains full knowledge of basic animal care in order to educate the public during wellness clinics. This includes familiarity of necessary vaccinations, sterilization b enefits, heartworm disease (testing, prevention, treatment). Maintains familiarity of products offere d through the shelter, mechanism of action, and basic costs. o Learn and retain the basics of the spay/neuter procedure, including anesthetic risks, and are able to communicate pre- and post-op information to owners in a competen t and friendly manner. o Learn and retain the basics of animal wellness (vaccination s, prevention, basic testing) and are able to communicate this information to the public effectively. o Must also be able to communicate basic veterinary concepts to o wners and be able to repeat information relayed by a veterinarian ● Animal Handling o Will be asked to handle (on average) 50+ dogs and cats pe r day o Must be able to learn characteristics of animal behavior (for example: be able to identify aggressive or fearful behavior) o Must be able to use appropriate safety equipment for fract ious or feral animals (will train) o Must possess excellent reflexes o Should be able to identify own limitations and be w illing to ask for help o Must become proficient at animal restraint for various procedure s for the safety of co-workers, self, and patients o Treats all animals humanely, with compassion and concern, b oth on and off the job and transmits these values to others ● Capable of performing intravenous, intramuscular, and subcut aneous injections ● Capable of placing an intravenous catheter and running an IV fluid pump if required ● Follows appropriate PPE protocols both in the clinic and in isolation wards. ● Assist with fundraising activities and special events as neede d ● Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be wil ling and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the employer’s safety policies and rules and must be willi ng to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel ● Excellent written and verbal skills ● Computer literate ● Detail oriented and superb organization skills ● The individual must be capable of functioning indepen dently with minimal supervision ● Any other duties as assigned Physical / Emotional Requirements of the Job ● Physical Requirements o Must be able to work standing or sitting for 10 or more ho urs o Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds repeated ly throughout the day with help o Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel repeatedly o Must be able to see fine detail in a variety of situat ions o Must have reasonable degree of agility to move through ti ghtly cramped areas in various situations o Must have good range of motion in joints especially wrist, knees, elbows o Must have good range of motion in your back for twisting e tc. ● Emotional / Mental Requirements o Must be able to work under stressful conditions and work eff iciently and effectively under those conditions o Must be able to respond quickly to a variety of medical situ ations (with training) o Must be able to cope with death due to surgical complica tion or euthanasia o Ability to rapidly and accurately process information o Ability to delegate tasks and accept those delegated o Ability to recognize a need for assistance and ask for help o Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of team. o Capable of problem-solving and conflict resolution. o Ability to make decisions o Ability to cope with frustrating situations and remain cal m Work Environment ● Job may require performance of tasks that involve potential fo r exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, animal and human ● Any allergic condition that would be aggravated from exposu re or through contact with animals or chemicals used to sanitize facilities, vehicles or equipment, is a disqu alification ● Potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases ● Exposure to high noise levels when in kennel area ● Potential for animal bites and scratches while handling p ets ● May be expected to work weekends, holidays, and off hours ● Candidate must be flexible with schedule changes and sho rt notice overtime requests. Authority The Assistant Clinic Supervisor reports directly to the Clinic Supervi sor. Clinic support staff report directly to the Assistant Clinic Supervisor. This is a mid-level position.
