Job Summary
The Assistant Bakery Manager supports the Bakery Manager in overseeing the daily operations and performance of the Bakery Department. This role helps ensure high standards of product quality, food safety, merchandising, customer service, and associate development while supporting sales, production goals, and operational consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Support
- Support the Bakery Manager in leading, coaching, training, and developing Bakery associates.
- Assist with scheduling, production planning, and daily task delegation.
- Provide ongoing feedback and reinforce productivity, food safety, and quality standards.
- Promote a positive, inclusive, and safety‑focused work environment.
Bakery Operations & Merchandising
- Assist with daily bakery operations, including production, baking, packaging, and display preparation.
- Ensure bakery cases, displays, and production areas are clean, full, and visually appealing.
- Support execution of merchandising plans, promotions, and seasonal programs.
- Maintain accurate pricing, signage, and product availability.
Food Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Support compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards.
- Assist with monitoring temperatures, dating, labeling, and production logs.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, rotation, and disposal of bakery products.
- Address food safety or compliance issues promptly and escalate as needed.
Inventory, Shrink & Financial Performance
- Assist with ordering, receiving, and inventory control to maintain freshness and minimize shrink.
- Monitor production levels to reduce waste while meeting customer demand.
- Support labor management and expense control in alignment with department goals.
Customer Service
- Deliver excellent customer service by assisting with product selections, special orders, and questions.
- Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally, escalating when appropriate.
- Ensure consistent service standards are maintained throughout the department.
Safety & Loss Prevention
- Ensure adherence to company safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain clean, organized, and hazard‑free work and production areas.
- Support loss prevention initiatives and shrink reduction efforts.
Collaboration & Coverage
- Partner with the Bakery Manager and store leadership to support overall store operations.
- Assume Bakery leadership responsibilities in the Bakery Manager’s absence.
- Support store initiatives, promotions, and special projects as needed.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Knowledge of bakery operations, production processes, and food safety practices.
- Ability to multitask effectively in a fast‑paced retail environment.
- Basic proficiency with computer systems and retail technology tools.
- Ability to motivate associates and support accountability.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior bakery, food service, or retail supervisory experience preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
