ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR AND CHAIR OF POLITICAL SCIENCE

Tougaloo College—a private, four-year, co-educational institution in Jackson, Mississippi—invites applications for a tenure-track appointment at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in Political Science. In addition, the faculty member will serve as the Chair of the Department. The appointment will take effect fall 2024 semester.
The successful applicant is expected to teach a variety of courses, including Introduction to Political Science, American Government, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Research Methods, Political Theory, and Senior Seminar. As Chair, the selected applicant will be tasked with articulating a vision and strategic plan for the department, as well as coordinate the execution of the department's educational programs with the faculty, schedule courses and assign instructors to courses in consultation with program directors, the faculty, and the dean's office. The appointment will include, but not be limited to: monitoring and adjusting course registrations and course instructor assignments, reviewing departmental programs for relevancy and enhancements, evaluating faculty, and shepherding processes for faculty re/appointments and faculty promotion and tenure. The successful candidate serves as a central figure in communicating and addressing concerns of internal and external constituents on the departmental level.

Responsibilities include teaching four undergraduate courses per semester, serving the College through committee participation, and supporting departmental efforts for continued improvement of programs. Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a majority African American student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students across a wide range of disciplines.
