Job Description

The Assembly Technician is responsible for the complete mechanical and electrical assembly of fiber laser cutting machines and their subassemblies. In this role, you follow detailed work instructions, drawings, and safety procedures while collaborating closely with the manufacturing team to achieve safety, quality, delivery, and cost objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble fiber laser cutting machines and subassemblies using engineering drawings, schematics, process documentation, work instructions, and verbal guidance.
  • Receive, unload, and unpack materials and components required for machine assembly.
  • Prepare tools, fixtures, and documentation needed to support each assembly run.
  • Perform in-process testing and final testing of machines and subassemblies, and accurately record test data according to work instructions and inspection test plans.
  • Use the SAP ERP system and other computer interfaces to perform basic parts and subassembly transactions and to record assembly steps completed.
  • Complete and maintain assembly-related documentation, both electronic and hard copy, ensuring accuracy and traceability.
  • Follow all established safety guidelines and recommendations for the manufacturing department.
  • Participate in projects and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, quality, and efficiency.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe production floor and workstation, including performing preventive maintenance on tools and applicable test instrumentation.
  • Complete assigned assembly tasks in a timely manner while meeting quality standards and specifications.
  • Develop and maintain productive, collaborative working relationships with all team members across the manufacturing area.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to cross-train on different functions and product families as needed.
  • Travel occasionally, domestically or internationally, for training purposes when required.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a manufacturing assembly environment.
  • Proven experience with mechanical assembly and electrical assembly in a production setting.
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret work instructions, engineering drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools such as wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, pliers, drills, and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to use fixtures and other manufacturing aids during the assembly process.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to work with ERP or similar systems for recording assembly steps and transactions.
  • Knowledge of basic technology terms and understanding of mechanical and electrical interactions of sub-systems within a larger system.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • High school diploma or GED.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Associate degree in a technical field is preferred but not required.
  • Machine building or machine service experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with SAP ERP or similar enterprise systems is a plus.
  • Experience working with tape measures and other basic measurement tools.
  • Comfort working from blueprints, wiring diagrams, and electrical schematics.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support cross-functional collaboration.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally, domestically or internationally, for training.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hoffman Estates, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $27.00/hr.
