Job Title: Mechanical Assembler
Job Description

Join a high-performance manufacturing team as a Mechanical Assembler responsible for building large custom diesel and natural gas engines that power hospital backup generators, data centers, and heavy industrial equipment. In this role, you assemble massive engines made up of hundreds of subassemblies, interpret detailed blueprints and work instructions, and use a wide range of mechanical and electrical tools to ensure each engine meets precise customer specifications. This position is ideal for individuals who are mechanically inclined, enjoy hands-on work, and have experience in environments such as automotive, diesel, construction, maintenance, or similar technical fields. This is not a basic assembly line position; you will apply mid-level mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and strong attention to quality and safety every day.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble large diesel and natural gas engines from multiple subassemblies according to customer-specific blueprints, specifications, and engineering drawings.
  • Use a wide range of hand and power tools, including torque wrenches, pneumatic air tools, DC (electrical) tooling, and basic wrenches, to perform precise fastening and assembly tasks.
  • Manipulate and position large engine components using lifting devices and cranes, ensuring safe and accurate placement during the assembly process.
  • Follow detailed written work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and work orders to complete assembly steps in the correct sequence.
  • Review and interpret technical documentation and work instructions on a computer to understand build requirements and document progress and completed work.
  • Apply proper fastening, sealing, hydraulic equipment, and torque equipment techniques to meet safety and quality standards.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and repair on in-process engines, identifying mechanical issues and correcting them before final completion.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and work instructions to determine correct parts, tools, and assembly methods for each unique engine.
  • Measure and verify components using tools such as tape measures and other basic measuring devices to ensure accurate fit and alignment.
  • Work collaboratively with another assembler in a two-person team and within one of several zones on the main line, coordinating tasks to complete multiple pieces efficiently.
  • Maintain high quality standards by following established processes, inspecting your own work, and ensuring each assembly meets specifications before moving to the next step.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, including consistent use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe operation of tools, cranes, and lifting devices.
  • Participate in training and assessments focused on safety, fastening, sealing, hydraulic equipment, torque equipment, and quality, and apply this knowledge on the job.
  • Contribute to a clean and organized work area by following 5S and housekeeping practices, minimizing debris such as metal scraps, packaging, and oil spills.
  • Support production schedules, including working assigned shifts and overtime as needed, such as every other Saturday when required.
  • Use computer skills to access work instructions, engineering drawings, and process documents, and to record production and quality information accurately.
Essential Skills
  • Proven experience working in an industrial environment with hands-on mechanical tasks.
  • Demonstrated experience using mechanical tooling such as torque equipment, DC tools, hand tools, and pneumatic tools.
  • Mid-level mechanical aptitude, with the ability to understand how mechanical systems fit and function together; this is not an entry-level or basic power tools role.
  • Experience following written work instructions, SOPs, blueprints, or similar technical documentation.
  • Computer proficiency sufficient to review engineering drawings, digital work instructions, and process documents, and to document work and progress.
  • Ability to pass written and hands-on assessments during the training period related to safety, fastening, sealing, hydraulic equipment, torque equipment, and quality.
  • Comfort working with large mechanical components and using lifting devices or cranes in a production environment.
  • Strong focus on quality, with the ability to follow established standards and processes to ensure accurate and reliable assemblies.
  • Ability to read and use basic measuring tools such as tape measures to verify dimensions and fit.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to follow established call-off procedures when necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment, often paired with another assembler on shared tasks.
  • Ability to meet physical demands of the role, including standing for long periods and handling tools and components throughout the shift.
  • Willingness and ability to wear required PPE, including steel or composite toe shoes, earplugs, and safety glasses at all times on the production floor.
  • Steel-toed or composite-toed shoes required at the start of employment.
  • No diploma required for consideration for this role.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience in industries such as automotive repair, diesel technician work, lube technician roles, tire shops, farming, construction, maintenance, or facilities.
  • Background in mechanical assembly, automotive repair, industrial maintenance, or light industrial production.
  • Familiarity with reading and interpreting mechanical blueprints and electrical schematics.
  • Experience with torque tools and understanding of how to verify that assemblies are correctly torqued.
  • Experience with pneumatic tooling and ability to explain proper use and applications.
  • Hands-on experience building or assembling equipment, vehicles, machinery, or projects from scratch using tools.
  • Experience with troubleshooting mechanical issues in a professional or personal setting.
  • Exposure to electrical or electronic assembly, wiring, or use of electrical testing equipment.
  • Comfort working in a production or assembly line environment while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Ability to describe and follow quality standards and processes used in previous roles to ensure good parts or products.
  • Capability to walk through step-by-step processes for building or assembling items, demonstrating structured thinking and process orientation.
  • Ability to score at or above the required percentile on a general labor or mechanical aptitude assessment, as specified by the hiring process.
Why Work Here?

Join a large, well-established manufacturing facility known for its stability, modern operations, and strong commitment to safety and quality. You benefit from a clear path to full-time employment after the contract period, with attendance and performance as the primary considerations. Full-time employees enjoy comprehensive benefits, including generous paid time off, multiple paid holidays, a competitive 401(k) match, and health, dental, vision, and life insurance starting on the first day of employment. The organization rewards growth and development by providing scheduled pay increases at 90, 180, and 365 days. Multiple shifts and alternative work schedules create opportunities to find a schedule that fits your life, and long-term temporary roles on certain shifts offer stability while you work toward full-time status. You work in a clean, temperature-controlled facility where safety, respect, and teamwork are central to the culture, and where mechanically inclined individuals can develop their skills on advanced, large-scale engine assemblies.

Work Environment

The role is based in a large, temperature-controlled manufacturing facility that is divided into an assembly side and a machine shop side. The environment is clean and organized, with minimal debris such as metal scraps, packaging, or oil spills, reflecting a strong safety culture. Assemblers typically work in two-person teams within one of several zones on the main line, often working side by side on multiple components such as oil pumps and coolers, with job times varying by area. The work involves frequent use of torque wrenches, pneumatic air tools, DC (electrical) tooling, hand tools, cranes, and lifting devices, with access to a tool area that contains more than 40 tools at each station. Required PPE includes steel or composite toe shoes, earplugs, and safety glasses, with earplugs and glasses provided on-site. The facility enforces strict PPE compliance and operates as a tobacco-free campus, allowing the use of tobacco products only during approved breaks in personal vehicles in the parking lot. The dress code is relaxed but work-appropriate: sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, work pants, and jeans are acceptable, while leggings and sweatpants are not. Multiple shifts are available, including 1st shift (6:30 a.m.–2:30 p.m.), 2nd shift (2:30 p.m.–10:30 p.m.), and 3rd shift (10:30 p.m.–6:30 a.m.), as well as alternative weekend schedules such as 6:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. or 6:00 p.m.–6:00 a.m. on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Weekend schedules typically involve working 36 hours with pay aligned to that schedule, and full-time employees on these schedules may receive pay equivalent to 40 hours. Overtime is often scheduled, including most Saturdays in certain periods, and production needs can influence the schedule. Attendance expectations are clearly defined, with a dedicated call-out process that requires notice at least 30 minutes before a shift.
