Job Title: Mechanical Assembler

Job Description

Join a high-performance manufacturing team as a Mechanical Assembler responsible for building large, custom products that power large buildings, data centers, and heavy industrial equipment. You will assemble complex parts using a wide range of mechanical and electrical tools, interpret detailed blueprints and work instructions, and perform basic troubleshooting and repair on in-process parts. This is a hands-on, highly technical role suited for individuals who are seriously mechanically inclined, comfortable working with large components, and confident using computer systems to follow and document work.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble large units according to detailed blueprints, engineering drawings, work instructions, and customer specifications.
  • Use a wide variety of hand and power tools, including torque wrenches, pneumatic air tools, DC/electrical tooling, and basic wrenches, to perform precise fastening and assembly work.
  • Manipulate and position massive components and sub-assemblies using lifting devices and cranes, ensuring safe and accurate installation.
  • Interpret and follow written work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and schematics to complete each step of the assembly process correctly.
  • Review and follow CPU-based work instructions and engineering documents to understand build requirements and record progress and completion of tasks.
  • Apply proper torque procedures using torque and DC tools, verifying that fasteners meet specified torque values and documenting results as required.
  • Work with hundreds of sub-assemblies, each with unique blueprints or specifications, and determine the correct tools and methods needed for each task.
  • Use measuring tools such as tape measures and other basic gauges to verify dimensions and ensure parts are installed to specification.
  • Collaborate with a partner on the assembly team, working side by side within a zone to complete multiple components or operations
  • Operate within one of several assembly zones on the main line, performing tasks such as assembling oil pumps, coolers, and other systems within specified time frames.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety, including proper use of PPE, safe operation of tools and lifting devices, and adherence to all plant safety procedures.
  • Participate in and successfully complete written and hands-on training assessments covering safety, fastening, sealing, hydraulic equipment, torque equipment, and quality.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience working in an industrial or hands-on environment using tools and equipment on a regular basis.
  • Demonstrated experience using mechanical tooling such as torque equipment, DC tools, pneumatic tools, and hand tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude at a mid-level minimum; this role requires more than basic assembly or simple power tool use.
  • Experience following written work instructions, SOPs, blueprints, engineering drawings, or similar technical documentation.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and work instructions to complete mechanical assemblies accurately.
  • Ability to pass both written and hands-on assessments during the training period, particularly in safety, fastening, sealing, hydraulic equipment, torque equipment, and quality.
  • Comfort working with large, heavy components and using lifting devices or cranes in a controlled and safe manner.
  • Familiarity with hand tools and power tools commonly used in mechanical, automotive, diesel, or industrial environments.
  • Ability to mechanically troubleshoot issues in assemblies or equipment and describe problem-solving steps clearly.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to follow established call-off procedures when necessary.
  • Steel-toed or composite-toe shoes required at the start of employment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in automotive repair, diesel technician work, lube technician roles, tire shop work, farming, construction, maintenance, or facilities is highly relevant.
  • Experience in mechanical assembly, industrial production, or light industrial work is beneficial.
  • Experience working with torque tools, pneumatic tooling, and hydraulic equipment in a production or maintenance setting.
  • Comfort using cranes, hoists, or other lifting devices to move and position heavy parts.
  • Ability to describe past experience building items from scratch using tools, including the tools used and the steps followed.
  • Understanding of quality standards and processes used to ensure products or parts meet required specifications.
  • Experience working from work instructions, schematics, or blueprints in automotive, industrial, or similar environments.
  • No formal diploma is required; hands-on experience and mechanical aptitude are the primary focus.

Standard shifts include 1st shift (6:30 AM–2:30 PM), 2nd shift (2:30 PM–10:30 PM), and 3rd shift (10:30 PM–6:30 AM). Overtime is typically scheduled every other Saturday for much of the year, subject to change. The dress code is relaxed but safety-focused: sweatshirts, t-shirts, hats, work pants, and jeans are acceptable, while leggings and sweatpants are not. Steel or composite toe shoes are required, and PPE such as earplugs and safety glasses is mandatory and provided on-site.
