Job Description

The Assembler uses hand and power tools to build high-quality products according to drawings and instructions. This role involves following detailed work instructions, performing inspections and tests on completed assemblies, cleaning and lubricating parts, and accurately recording assembly status in a computer system. The position requires strong tape measure skills, basic math ability, and prior experience in assembly, construction, woodworking, or similar building environments.

Responsibilities

• Use hand and power tools to complete mechanical assemblies according to drawings and written or verbal instructions.
• Follow detailed instructions from blueprints or supervisors to ensure accurate and consistent assembly.
• Inspect and test completed assemblies to verify quality, functionality, and adherence to specifications.
• Clean and lubricate parts and assemblies to ensure proper operation and longevity of components.
• Maintain an organized and accurate inventory of tools, reporting any issues or shortages promptly.
• Utilize a computer to record assembly status, update production information, and document work performed.
• Read and interpret tape measurements accurately, including measurements down to 1/16 of an inch.
• Apply basic math skills to measure, calculate, and verify dimensions and quantities during the assembly process.
• Work on an assembly line as needed, collaborating with team members to meet production goals and timelines.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when using tools, equipment, and machinery.
• Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards to support a safe and efficient production environment.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience using a tape measure, including the ability to read measurements down to 1/16 of an inch.
• Hands-on experience with hand and power tools in an assembly, construction, carpentry, woodworking, or building environment.
• Mechanical assembly experience, including working with components and parts in a production or assembly setting.
• Ability to read and follow blueprints, drawings, and detailed work instructions.
• Basic math skills to perform measurements, calculations, and quantity checks.
• Ability to work on an assembly line and follow standardized processes.
• Comfort using a computer to record assembly status and production information.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Forklift experience is a plus.
• Crane operation experience is a plus.
• Experience in carpentry or woodworking is highly beneficial.
• Experience in general construction or building trades is advantageous.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality in all assembly tasks.

Work Environment

The role is based in a modern, newly expanded facility built in 2019, featuring a clean, bright, and climate-controlled environment. The production areas are spacious and open, with plenty of room to work and no tight or cramped spaces in departments or work areas. Employees have access to dedicated locker bays and are assigned a personal locker for secure storage of belongings. The facility includes a brand-new kitchen and market area where employees can purchase snacks and lunch items, as well as vending machines for added convenience. All areas of the facility are well-maintained, very clean, and equipped with contemporary fixtures and equipment, providing a comfortable and professional workplace for assembly operations. Typical shifts include first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and second shift from 2:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Hobart, IN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $22.00/hr.
