Job Description

The Assembler plays a key role in building products from start to finish, ensuring each product meets high quality standards. In this role, you read and follow production lists and work instructions, select and use the correct materials and tools, and carefully inspect each stage of the assembly process. You work with a variety of hand and power tools in a fast-paced production environment, contributing directly to the creation of custom window products for dealers and homeowners.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of assembly tasks from initial setup through final completion.
  • Read and follow production lists, standard work, control plans, and written work instructions accurately.
  • Identify and select proper materials required for each job and verify they match specifications.
  • Inspect each phase of the assembly process to ensure products meet quality and workmanship standards.
  • Advise team members and appropriate personnel of material shortages and quality issues as they arise.
  • Use hand and power tools such as drills, screw guns, nail and staple guns, chop saws, routers, sanders, and other equipment safely and effectively.
  • Measure components accurately using a tape measure and confirm dimensions meet required tolerances.
  • Follow established production and safety procedures at all times to maintain a safe work area.
  • Support overall production goals by maintaining productivity, meeting deadlines, and assisting teammates as needed.
  • Handle and move materials and finished products, including lifting items up to and over 50 pounds.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and workstations in clean and orderly condition.
  • Communicate clearly with supervisors and coworkers regarding workflow, issues, and improvement ideas.

Essential Skills

  • High School Diploma, GED, or HSED.
  • Basic reading and math skills to interpret work instructions, production lists, and measurements.
  • Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately.
  • Ability to safely operate drills, screw guns, nail and staple guns, chop saws, routers, sanders, and similar hand and power tools.
  • Capability to lift 50+ pounds and perform physical tasks throughout the shift.
  • Experience in assembly, production, or general labor environments.
  • Comfort working with hand tools and power tools on a regular basis.
  • Ability to follow standard work, control plans, and written work instructions consistently.
  • Attention to detail and quality, including the ability to inspect work at multiple stages.
  • Reliable attendance and the ability to work assigned shifts and potential overtime.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Background in construction, mechanical assembly, or related hands-on work.
  • Experience reading or working from blueprints or similar production documents.
  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort working with various materials and components.
  • Ability to use a tape measure confidently in a production setting.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills in a manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to learn new processes, tools, and equipment as needed.
  • Comfort working in a warm, non-air-conditioned production facility.

Work Environment

The operation runs multiple shifts: a first shift from 5:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and a second shift from 3:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday. The facility may schedule additional work on Fridays for a half day or full day, with notice provided early in the week. Employees receive two twelve-minute breaks and one thirty-minute lunch break during the shift. You work in a large production environment using tools such as drills, screw guns, nail and staple guns, chop saws, routers, sanders, and other hand and power tools. The plant is not air conditioned and can get hot, so the dress code is flexible: you may wear shorts and t-shirts, provided clothing is appropriate. Steel-toed shoes are required for safety. Long hair must be secured in a ponytail or bun to meet safety requirements around equipment. The environment is fast-paced, team-oriented, and focused on safety, quality, and productivity

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dubuque, IA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.20 - $22.20/hr.
