This role supports a non-union contractor performing primarily municipal paving and repair work, with a strong focus on asphalt repair, replacement, and small-to-mid scale paving projects. You will work as a skilled member of an asphalt crew, contributing to high-quality, municipal-standard results while operating and working around paving-related equipment. This is a year-round position tied to long-term municipal contracts, ideal for experienced asphalt professionals who are confident in the field and comfortable working in active paving environments.

Responsibilities

  • Perform municipal asphalt repair and replacement work, including patching, resurfacing, and small paving areas.
  • Operate and work around asphalt pavers in support of paving and repair operations.
  • Roll asphalt using roller and compaction equipment to achieve proper density and a clean, durable finish.
  • Operate plate compactors and other asphalt-related tools and equipment as part of daily tasks.
  • Assist with asphalt removal, surface preparation, and site cleanup for repair and replacement scopes.
  • Support paving crews with raking, leveling, and edge work to ensure smooth transitions and neat edges.
  • Maintain safe work practices when working around hot asphalt, moving equipment, and traffic-controlled areas.
  • Follow directions from crew leads and collaborate effectively with team members to complete municipal-quality work on schedule.
  • Inspect work areas and finished surfaces to help ensure quality standards and durability are met.

Essential Skills

  • Approximately 5 or more years of hands-on asphalt labor experience in a paving or repair environment.
  • Proven experience rolling asphalt with roller and compaction equipment.
  • Experience operating or working directly with asphalt pavers.
  • Proficiency using plate compactors and common asphalt-related tools and equipment.
  • Class E driver’s license (required).
  • Ability to work safely around hot asphalt, heavy and moving equipment, and in traffic-controlled work zones.
  • Experience supporting asphalt paving tasks such as raking, leveling, and edge work.
  • Capability to perform physically demanding outdoor work for extended periods.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience on municipal or public works asphalt projects.
  • Experience with asphalt patching, trench restoration, parking lots, approaches, or roadway-related paving.
  • CDL Class A or B is a plus, though not required for this role.
  • Ability to operate additional light equipment related to asphalt work or site preparation.
  • Experience with concrete flatwork, forms, pours, framing, gratings, and general construction is beneficial.
  • Comfort working as part of a diverse crew, including Spanish-speaking and ESL team members.

Why Work Here?

You will join a team that offers steady, year-round work supported by long-standing municipal contracts, giving you reliable hours and long-term stability. The organization values growth and development, providing opportunities to expand your skills and take on more responsibility over time. You can access benefits such as a 401(k), paid holidays, and additional employee benefits, supporting both your financial security and work-life balance. The work environment welcomes Spanish-speaking and ESL candidates and encourages a collaborative, inclusive crew culture where your experience and strong work ethic are appreciated.

Work Environment

This position offers year-round, steady work driven by long-term municipal contracts, minimizing seasonal downtime.
