Our client is seeking an Art Director / Senior Editorial Designer to support a fast-paced, research-driven organization on a contract basis. This role will focus heavily on high-quality editorial design, including reports, publications, and multi-channel assets. The ideal candidate is both strategic and hands-on, capable of setting visual direction while executing quickly across deliverables. This is an immediate need with strong visibility to senior stakeholders and the opportunity to contribute to forward-thinking, content-rich initiatives.


You Will:

  • Lead visual direction and execution for editorial content, including reports, whitepapers, and publications
  • Design and produce high-quality layouts using strong typography and grid systems
  • Translate complex, abstract research concepts into clear and compelling visual storytelling
  • Create supporting assets such as presentation decks, PDFs, and digital content
  • Collaborate directly with senior stakeholders including production, editorial, and executive leadership
  • Work within existing brand guidelines while contributing to visual evolution and consistency
  • Manage multiple deliverables simultaneously in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Provide fresh creative perspective and elevate overall design quality across outputs


You Have:

  • 7+ years of experience in editorial design, publication design, or art direction
  • Advanced expertise in Adobe InDesign with strong typography and layout skills
  • Experience designing long-form, content-heavy materials such as reports or research publications
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating clean, intelligent, and structured design systems
  • Ability to balance concept development with hands-on production execution
  • Experience working with senior stakeholders and operating with minimal direction
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and Google Workspace
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work quickly without sacrificing quality


Logistics:

  • Start Date/Duration: Starting ASAP; short-term projects with potential extension
  • Hours/Week: Approximately 20 Hours/Week (may flex based on workload)
  • Onsite/Offsite: Hybrid 1-2 days/week onsite in Palo Alto, CA (Tues/Thurs preferred)
  • Laptop/Software Requirements: Using your own equipment, Mac-based, Adobe, Google Workspace. Can provide license if needed
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $65-$75/Hour DOE
