Aquatics Supervisor

Under the general direction of the Assistant Manager – Recreation Services, the Aquatic Supervisor is responsible for supervising the daily aquatic operations and/or year-round indoor and seasonal outdoor aquatic programs at the Frisco Athletic Center. Maintains and secures facilities, develops and implements operational procedures and addresses customer complaints and issues. Supervises assigned staff.

The intent of this position description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by incumbent(s) in this position. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties in this description and incumbent(s) may be required to perform position-related tasks other than those specifically listed in this description.
  • Supervises the aquatic programs and water safety operations of the Frisco Athletic Center, including hiring, coaching, training, scheduling, and evaluating aquatic staff.
  • Certifies aquatic personnel to perform lifeguard and water safety instruction skills.
  • Develops aquatic programs including descriptions, schedules, instructors, etc.
  • Maintains and adjusts water chemistry to ensure proper levels are in place.
  • Maintains daily records and reports relating to attendance, chemicals, accidents/incidents, maintenance functions, etc.
  • Evaluates programs and assists in the formulation of policies, procedures, evaluation processes, goals, and objectives that enhance the efficiency and productivity of the aquatic operations.
  • Prepares, manages, and monitors division budget and achieves financial and program goals.
  • Manages the division’s pricing of aquatic services, contract, seasonal and permanent staff and contracts and other revenues and expenses to meet budget and forecast goals.
  • Promotes facility amenities, programs, and services to members and guests.
  • Interacts with public and staff on a daily basis; answers inquire, addresses complaints, grievances, emergencies, issues, and assists patrons as needed.
  • Monitors and schedules activities at the center and enforces center use and safety policies.
  • Manages employee schedules and division payroll as required for efficient operations and as needed to meet financial goals and policies.
  • Establishes, fosters, and maintains effective working relationships with the public, city staff, and vendors.
  • Serves as Manager on Duty on a rotating schedule as needed, which includes opening and closing designated facilities.
  • Prepares and maintains purchase orders for inventory and supplies.

Other Important Duties:
  • May work extended hours, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • May need to provide CPR and First Aid and prepare incident reports.
  • Promotes Parks and Recreation programs, activities, and events through various mediums.
  • Assists and provides staff coverage in performance of assigned duties.
  • Travels to attend meetings, conferences, and training seminars.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of aquatic and recreational activities, facility rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the planning, administration and operation of center programs and facilities.
  • Knowledge of applicable safety rules and regulations to protect citizens and employees.
  • Knowledge of City policies and procedures pertaining to personnel management.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques for identifying problems, researching, and determining the most appropriate course of action for their resolution.
  • Knowledge of effective customer service techniques with the ability to present one’s self and the city in a positive and professional manner.
  • Knowledge of time management techniques with the ability to organize, schedule, assign, delegate, coordinate, and monitor the work to accomplish the most possible in the time available.
  • Proficiency in the use of computers and software application.
  • Proficiency in oral and written communication with ability to explain and interpret rules, answer questions when dealing with the general public and various levels within the City.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal instruction and supervision.
  • Ability to work with constant/extreme noise or interruptions.
  • Ability to maintain restraint and keep calm when faced with emotional or irate individuals.

Education, Experience, and Certifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation or related field and minimum three (3) years recreation management or administration experience, one (1) year of which is in a supervisory role or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Must possess at time of hire either Certified Pool Operator (CPO) Certification issued by the National Swimming Pool Foundation, or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification issued by the National Recreation & Parks Association.
  • Must possess at time of hire Lifeguard Certification issued by the American Red Cross or comparable Lifeguard Certification Company.
  • Must possess at time of hire Lifeguard Instructor Certification issued by the American Red Cross or comparable Lifeguard Certification Company.
  • Must possess Water Safety Instructor Certification issued by the American Red Cross within twelve (12) months of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, criminal background check and MVR check.
  • Must possess a valid State of Texas Driver’s License.
  • Work is performed in office and recreation facility environment.
  • May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions, hazardous chemicals, fumes, infectious diseases, toxic waste, air, and water borne pathogens, body fluids, and infectious diseases when applying CPR, First Aid, or cleaning facilities.
