Under general direction, the Aquatics Coordinator is responsible for the creation, promotion, implementation, and programming activities for all aquatics programs, classes, and activities within the Clearwater recreation facilities.
Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Creates, develops, implements and monitors programming, activities, and other services for the Aquatics facilities of Clearwater; manages participation numbers in various software, maximizes pool usage, and markets and promotes programs within the community.
  • Plans, promotes, coordinates, and maintains a variety of swim programs; schedules and conducts American Red Cross swimming and water safety courses; teach lifeguarding courses and participate in recruitment, training, and hiring.
  • Develops, organizes, and implements the classes, lessons, events, and various other special programs and services; researches and develops appropriate schedule, instructor selection, lesson plans, and activity guidelines.
  • Performs general maintenance for the pools and maintains appropriate water chemistry; troubleshoots problems, contacts outside vendors, and ensures maintenance completion.
  • Manages, monitors, updates, and coordinates the facility aquatics calendar; sets up classes, determines prices, changes seasonal programs, and ensures that all programs are organized to run smoothly; creates fliers, marketing materials, and promotional brochures; coordinates aquatics rentals.
  • Greets, engages, registers, directs, and performs all customer service activities for the aquatics facilities; answers phones, provides online responses, and ensures all patrons have all necessary information that has been requested.
  • Maintains, monitors, and tracks expenditures for the programs and services offered; submits financial paperwork, manages resource and program allocation, and tracks all purchases.
  • Interviews, hires, and oversees potential summer staff, lifeguards, and program instructors; makes staffing recommendations, provides training, and oversees hired personnel; creates work schedules and ensures all work is in compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Performs any and all duties and tasks required or necessary to ensure all programs and classes are professionally developed, organized, well-staffed, and meet the needs of the community.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment:
A valid State driver's license is required.
American Red Cross or equivalent Lifeguard Certificate is required.
First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer is required.
Water Safety Instructor Certificate is required.
Possession of Aquatic Facility Operator or Certified Pool Operator certification or ability to obtain within one year of hire date.
Certification in American Red Cross Emergency Response or equivalent DOT approved First Responder Course within one year of hire.
Certification recognized by the National Recreation and Park Association is preferred.

Education and Experience:
High School Diploma, High School Equivalency Diploma, G.E.D. Certificate PLUS three (3) years of customer service, recreational, aquatics or program development experience; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
