Job Title: In Vivo Toxicology Associate Scientist

100% onsite

Duration: 12 month contract

Shift: 06:00 AM – 02:30 PM (Day Shift)

Weekend Requirement: One weekend per month


Job Summary

The Associate Scientist will join the General Toxicology group within an AAALAC-accredited and GLP-compliant research facility. The role involves supporting rodent toxicology studies from protocol review through in-life data collection, ensuring compliance with study protocols, SOPs, and regulatory standards. The individual will also assist with data reporting, QA audit responses, and maintenance of study documentation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide humane care and handling of laboratory rodents
  • Restrain and handle animals safely for study procedures
  • Administer test substances via multiple routes (diet, gavage, intraperitoneal, subcutaneous, etc.)
  • Perform body weight measurements, food consumption tracking, and clinical observations
  • Collect biological samples including blood (tail vein), urine, and other required specimens
  • Support eye exams and other in-life study procedures
  • Collect data manually and using electronic systems (Provantis experience preferred)
  • Record, document, and report study results with high accuracy and timeliness
  • Maintain study files and ensure proper documentation of all activities
  • Follow all study protocols, SOPs, GLPs, and safety regulations
  • Communicate effectively with Study Directors, supervisors, veterinarians, and peers
  • Address QA audit findings as needed
  • Ensure adherence to regulatory and safety standards
  • Assist in development and refinement of laboratory techniques
  • Support other technicians and perform additional assigned tasks
  • Maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Biology, or related field (MS degree considered overqualified)
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant laboratory experience (rodent handling required)
  • Prior hands-on experience with animals (academic or professional acceptable)


Preferred Skills

  • Experience in GLP-compliant laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with Provantis Integrated Preclinical Software
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and in team settings
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel


Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Frequent handling of rodents requiring firm restraint and fine motor skills
  • Standing, sitting, or working for extended periods
  • Use of PPE including gloves, lab coats, eye protection, shoe covers, and respirators
  • Ability to work in confined laboratory and animal housing spaces
  • Operation of equipment and handling of cages, racks, and instruments


Work Environment

  • Work performed in secured animal vivarium under controlled conditions
  • Regular exposure to live animals, allergens, and biohazardous materials
  • Use of sharp instruments and mechanical cage systems
  • Strict adherence to PPE and biosafety requirements
  • May require shower/change of clothing if prior exposure to external animal environments
  • Work conducted individually and in small teams within research and procedure rooms
