Top skills, experience or education required for this position:
1. Experience with clinical management (e.g., administration of medications, assisting the veterinarians work up a case, medical records management, anesthesia, etc.) [required]
2. Experience with animal handling [required]
3. NHP primate experience, or other exotic animal experience [preferred but not required]
4. RVT [preferred not required, but we are also willing to train the right candidate]
5. Experience with streamlining medical record management [preferred]
To autonomously maintain and operate equipment, supplies, facilities, and model systems in direct support of veterinary care program and to train others in such techniques under supervision and/or assist in coordination of such activities.
Responsibilities :
• Completely follow established procedures and protocols independently. Demonstrates broad and versatile technical expertise with high level of proficiency within discipline and acts in a cross-functional manner
• Recognize, clearly communicate, document, and respond to observed procedural variances.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and optimize laboratory operations for efficient use of time and laboratory supplies and reagents, when appropriate.
• Learn and effectively implement new advanced veterinary protocols and/or techniques and display mastery over basic techniques.
• Observe performance of and troubleshoot instrumentation. Aid in evaluation of new products
• Complete all assigned and required trainings prior to deadlines and train junior staff on advanced techniques.
• Use experience and training to make high quality decisions to execute responsibilities
• Understand and adhere to corporate standards and regulatory requirements regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials, controlled drug and radioactive compounds, GxP compliance, and animal care where applicable.
• Demonstrate technical proficiency in laboratory animal veterinary care. Demonstrate skill in multiple techniques, as required, to suit the changing needs of research or development sciences. Perform routine and complex tasks competently. Assist in training others.
• Documentation of tasks and observations, and adherence to designated task schedules and departmental Standard Operating Procedures
Qualifications :
• A.S. or equivalent degree, licensed veterinary technician, 2 years experience, and mid-level certification in related field or techniques
• Physical dexterity, visual and auditory acuity, organizational and time management skills, and sensitivity to changes in environmental conditions encountered in task performance
• Computer skills, including word processing, internet browser navigation, communication such as email and messaging, and industry or department specific software solutions
• Able to lift 50 pounds, perform repetitive procedures, and stand or walk for extended periods of time.
• Practical knowledge, including routine calculations, and problem-solving ability to carry out job function.
• Able per competency and policy to operate company vehicle
