Analytical Chemist

Job Title: Analytical Chemist / Analytical Scientist (Intermediate Level)

Location: Merlospark, IL

Pay Rate: $28–$30/hour

Duration: 6 Months (with possibility of extension and conversion based on performance & business needs)

Job Summary

We are seeking an Analytical Chemist to support laboratory operations through execution of analytical testing, method validation, and instrumentation troubleshooting. This role requires hands-on experience with chromatographic techniques and analytical instrumentation in a regulated environment. The ideal candidate will be capable of working independently while also supporting senior scientists and mentoring junior staff when needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine analytical testing using instrumental methods such as HPLC, GC, FTIR, UV, and ICP-MS
• Execute and support method validation, verification, and method transfer activities
• Troubleshoot analytical instruments and resolve technical issues by leveraging internal expertise, literature, and vendor support
• Maintain and operate chromatography systems and associated data systems (e.g., Empower)
• Accurately document all laboratory work in compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP)
• Support SOP creation, updates, and routing to ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., USP)
• Interpret and analyze data, ensuring accuracy and integrity of results
• Perform peer review of analytical data and documentation
• Provide technical guidance and training support to junior or associate-level scientists
• Assist in maintaining laboratory compliance with GMP, safety, and regulatory requirements
• Manage workload effectively to meet departmental timelines and priorities

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or related physical science
• 1–4 years of relevant experience in analytical chemistry (preferably in pharmaceutical or regulated environment)
• Hands-on experience with chromatographic techniques (HPLC, GC) and analytical instrumentation
• Familiarity with method validation, transfer, and troubleshooting
• Experience with chromatography data systems such as Empower
• Working knowledge of cGMP, FDA, and USP guidelines preferred
• Strong documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications

Preferred Skills

• Experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech laboratory
• Exposure to SOP management systems (e.g., Documentum)
• Ability to mentor or train junior staff
• Strong attention to detail and data integrity mindset
