Element has an upcoming opportunity for an Analytical Chemist (Environmental Testing) to join our growing team in Fort Wayne, IN. The Analytical Chemist (Environmental Testing) prepares and analyzes environmental and drinking water samples using standard analytical techniques according to approved scientific and EPA methodologies in compliance with Element Materials Technology quality assurance programs and standard operating procedures (SOPs). This position can be a physical job that may require standing for long periods, working with organic solvents, laboratory glassware and specialized equipment.
Responsibilities:
- Preparation of samples using standard techniques
- Performing chemical analysis using standard techniques
- Prioritizing work assignments to ensure that extraction and analysis hold times are met
- Analyze drinking water and complex environmental sample extracts for organic semi-volatile or volatile compounds including but not limited to pesticides, PCBs, SVOCs, SOCs and VOCs by GC, GC-ECD and/or GC-MS
- Review raw data for accuracy and interferences as well as proper integration
- Review chromatograms and mass spectra for proper identification in complicated matrices
- Prepare and analyze duplicates and dilutions as needed
- Recording and reporting data and any unusual test occurrences to the supervisor
- Performing routine instrument maintenance and repair
- Competency in complex instrumentation instrument specific software (training is provided)
- Responsible for keeping personal training documentation (training records, IDOC/CDOC) current and accurate.
- Responsible for timely completion of assigned/scheduled QC samples (MDL, LOD/LOQ, PT)
- Responsible for general housekeeping in work area
Requirements:
- BA or BS in chemistry or related scientific field.
- 1-5 years analytical chemistry experience in a related Environmental Science or TIC field.
- Experienced in several of the following: HPLC, LC-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-FID, GC-ECD, GC-MS, and Wet Chemistry
- Experience with LIMS data entr
- Proficiency in calibration standard and QC sample preparation and analysi
- Demonstrate excellent time management and organizational skill
- Experience scheduling work to ensure that sample holding times are not exceeded and that customer service goals for turnaround time are achieve
- Team participation and meeting management skill
- Demonstrate good problem-solving skill
- Work independently following written and verbal instruction
- Reading, writing and speaking skill
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Lifting Demands:
- Frequency of required physical force: Minimum (moderate).
- Lifting requirements: lifting <50 lbs. often and > 50 lbs. on occasion
- Ability to stand on feet for long periods of time
