Position Overview

Veterans Alliance is partnering with a Client in Tucson, AZ to offer a hands-on SkillBridge training opportunity for transitioning service members seeking careers in aviation maintenance and MRO operations.

This program provides real-world experience in a heavy maintenance, modification, and inspection environment, supporting commercial and military aircraft in a structured hangar setting. Participants will be integrated into maintenance teams and gain exposure across multiple disciplines including mechanical, avionics, structural repair, quality assurance, and operations leadership.

Training Tracks / Areas of Focus

Participants may gain experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Aircraft Mechanic: Inspection, repair, and servicing of aircraft systems and components
  • Avionics Technician: Troubleshooting, installation, and maintenance of electrical and avionics systems
  • Structures / Sheet Metal: Structural repair, fabrication, and modification of aircraft components
  • Crew Chief: Oversight of aircraft condition, maintenance coordination, and flight readiness
  • Quality Inspector: Inspection of completed work to ensure compliance with FAA and company standards
  • Operations Supervisor: Support of maintenance operations, workflow coordination, and team oversight

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspections, and repairs on aircraft systems
  • Assist with modifications, upgrades, and structural repairs in a heavy maintenance environment
  • Utilize technical data, manuals, and maintenance documentation to complete assigned tasks
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and/or electrical discrepancies
  • Follow all safety procedures, tool control, and FOD prevention standards
  • Support quality assurance processes and ensure compliance with FAA and company requirements
  • Collaborate with team members to meet production and delivery timelines
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work performed

Basic Qualifications

  • Active-duty service member eligible for DoD SkillBridge (within 180 days of separation)
  • Background in aviation maintenance or related military occupational specialty:
  • Aircraft Maintenance / Crew Chief
  • Avionics
  • Structures / Sheet Metal
  • Experience working in flightline, hangar, or depot-level environments
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience on military or commercial aircraft platforms (fixed-wing or rotary)
  • Familiarity with inspections, phase maintenance, or heavy maintenance workflows
  • Prior leadership experience (NCO, shift lead, or team lead)

Certification Requirements

  • A&P License REQUIRED for the following tracks:
  • Crew Chief
  • Quality Inspector
  • Operations Supervisor
  • Candidates without an A&P must be:
  • Actively pursuing certification, OR
  • Eligible and planning to obtain shortly after program completion

Work Environment

  • Hangar-based heavy maintenance (MRO) environment
  • Work performed on commercial and military aircraft
  • Exposure to tools, equipment, and systems used in civilian aviation maintenance
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented setting
