About the role

Location: Hybrid | Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday at the Sally Beauty Support Center, Legacy West (Plano, TX); Remote Thursday or Friday

Sally Beauty is looking for a summer intern who can rapidly build AI-powered solutions that solve real business problems. You’ll work from a prioritized list of use cases across multiple departments, such as supply chain, marketing, finance, and operations. Your job is to understand how the process works today, prototype a solution fast using AI-assisted development tools, and deliver production-quality results. This role reports to the AI Governance Program Manager within IT.

We want someone who is already using AI tools to build things — not just experimenting with prompts, but actually shipping working applications. If you’ve used tools like Claude, Cursor, Replit, or Copilot to go from idea to working software in hours instead of weeks, and you understand why version control, testing, and proper release practices still matter even when the code writes itself, this role is for you.

To apply you must meet these guidelines/requirements:

  • This is a hybrid position requiring onsite work three days per week at the Support Center in Legacy West, Plano, TX.
  • This position is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.
  • Housing, relocation, and transportation assistance are not provided.
  • Availability is required from June 1 through August 7, 2026, with a minimum commitment of 30 hours per week.

Responsibilities

  • Work from a prioritized list of AI use cases to rapidly prototype and build solutions using AI-assisted development tools (Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Replit, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot)
  • Learn the business process behind each use case so you understand the problem before you start building
  • Take early-stage prototypes and improve them — add structure, error handling, and documentation so others can use them reliably
  • Build new AI-powered tools and automations from problem statements provided by business teams
  • Apply SDLC best practices throughout: version control (GitHub), branching, code review, testing, and structured release management — even when using AI to generate the code
  • Help deploy solutions into cloud environments and support them after launch
  • Track how much AI usage (tokens, API calls) each solution consumes and flag anything unusual
  • Write clear documentation so business users can understand and maintain the tools you build
  • Test and evaluate new AI development tools and share what you find with the team

Knowledge, skills & abilities requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field
  • Demonstrated ability to use AI-assisted development tools to rapidly build working applications — we want to see examples of things you’ve built, not just classes you’ve taken
  • Experience writing code in Python, JavaScript, or a similar language
  • Solid understanding of SDLC fundamentals: version control (Git/GitHub), branching strategies, code review, testing, and deployment practices — you should know why these matter, not just how to use them
  • Able to understand how a business process works and think through how to improve it with technology
  • Comfortable working independently and figuring things out without step-by-step instructions
  • Good communication skills — able to explain what you built and how it works to people who aren’t technical
  • Bonus: Experience with prompt engineering, agentic AI workflows, cloud platforms (Azure), or Copilot Studio / Power Platform
