This job description defines the tasks and the responsibilities normally expected of the Patient Account Representative I, but it should be understood that it is not all inclusive and is subject to change by the CFO and/or Admitting Coordinator
The Patient Account Representative provides customer service to patients and team members across the organization. Welcomes members of the public and expedites patient check in and phone reception. Patient account representatives provide clerical support to the physicians, providers, nurses and patients at Mid-Valley Hospital. This position requires the ability to provide excellent customer service and maintain a team work focus while working with a wide variety of people with diverse backgrounds.
SPESIFICATIONS
• Use Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software.
• Successfully operate multi-line phone system
• Introduce patients to the hospital and explain and initiate the procedures, the consent forms and other paper work by which patients are identified and collect payments or deposits.
• Perform routine typing and clerical duties.
• Receive payments for hospital and medical services rendered and record amount received according to written procedures.
• Perform other duties as directed by the Admitting Coordinator.
• Demonstrate an initiative for and willingness to learn new procedures.
• Demonstrate a thorough knowledge of the hospital’s policies. Demonstrate an adherence to them.
• Maintain established department policies, procedures, objective, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.
• Assist in care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
• Attend in-service and other required meetings. Attend educational programs as directed.
• Aware of and carries out infection control standards of the institution.
• Recognize the chain of command by reporting pertinent information to the Admitting Coordinator.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient, tactful and diplomatic in contacts with patients, relatives, public, physicians and co-workers.
• Respect patient’s privacy, making provisions for such at all times.
• Demonstrate an awareness of self-responsibility and accountability for own practices.
• This position is subject to work different shifts and/or holidays and/or weekends.
• Pre-register patients.
• Obtains deposit and/or co-pay when required.
• Conduct in-house follow-up with patients as needed.
• Interface with other departments as needed.
• Quantity of work. Amount of employee production.
• Safety. Degree of doing job duties in a safe manner.
• Self-initiative. When the employee undertakes and completes needed actions without being so instructed.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
2. Attends and participates in meetings and is responsible for information communicated at meetings.
3. Assists all patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and employees in a professional and courteous manner.
4. Follows Infection Control procedures at all times.
5. Adheres to the following environmental care standards.
6. Demonstrates the ability to adapt to varied age-specific patient populations.
Requirements
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or equivalent
PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: No personal protective equipment is required for this position.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
May be required to work any shift as needed.
May be required to work any day of the week and any shift.
This position is primarily sedentary in nature. Maximum amount of lifting is 10 lbs. frequent carrying of objects up to 20 lbs.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Generally pleasant environment. Occasionally stress during emergency situations as well as some collection activities.
Per Diem
WAGE AND COMPENSATION
Wage range $ 18.54 hr. - $ 27.54 hr. – DOE
Plus, the Per Diem rate of an additional 10%
Mid-Valley Hospital also offers Per Diem Employees Sick Leave at an accrual of 1 hour for every 40 hours worked. Per Diem employees can also enroll in a 403(b) deferred compensation plan and/or a 457 deferred compensation plan.
