This is a full-time position located at theState Library in Baton Rouge, LA.

This position supports the efficient operation of the Center for the Book and its programs, including the annual Louisiana Book Festival (LBF), which is the State Library's largest event in achieving its mission to promote literacy and reading and to showcase Louisiana authors and literature to a worldwide audience. The Louisiana Book Festival is the largest event coordinated by any single state agency in Louisiana and features over 200 authors and panelists participating in 100 programs at 20 different venues in a single day. It is attended by around 200,000 people from all over Louisiana and the world. This position provides high-level administrative support, manages program activities, and assists with the planning, coordination, and evaluation of CFTB programs. This position also serves as the Volunteer Coordinator for the festival and manages all volunteer recruitment and training for the Louisiana Book Festival, as well as assisting with CFTB communications and acting as an agency co-safety director.

Three years of experience in administrative services; OR

Six years of full-time work experience in any field; OR

A bachelor's degree.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:
  • Coordinate projects supporting Library of Congress state affiliation, annual reporting, and national literary initiatives
  • Track and report monthly contributions related to specialty license plate donations
  • Provide support and customer service to internal departments within the State Library
  • Maintain and update program chronologies to ensure accuracy of annual events and initiatives
  • Manage communications with authors and publishers, including preparation of the annual Author Guide
  • Coordinate travel arrangements and itineraries for featured authors and oversee related purchasing activities
  • Lead recruitment, training, and management of volunteers for the Louisiana Book Festival
  • Develop and maintain volunteer databases, schedules, job descriptions, and communication materials
  • Plan and execute volunteer outreach efforts and oversee distribution of volunteer resources and information packets
  • Supervise volunteer operations during events, including coordination of volunteer areas and leadership meetings


Position-Specific Details:
  • Appointment Type: This is a probational appointment. Current permanent status state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment.
  • Work Schedule: This is a full-time position that reports in-office. This position may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime. This position may be required to travel.
