At Utah Valley University, adjunct faculty play an essential role in delivering high-quality education and shaping the learning experience for our students. Working under the guidance of the program director, department chair, and dean, you will design and teach engaging courses, develop instructional materials, and employ effective teaching and assessment methods aligned with OTL-recommended best practices. Your work will help students meet measurable learning objectives while fostering a supportive, student-centered environment.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Design and teach assigned course(s) in the program.
  • Plan, prepare, and follow an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
  • Prepare instructional materials, such as course outlines, syllabi, evaluations, quizzes, papers, exams, visual aids, and handouts.
  • Instruct students using appropriate* teaching methods.
  • Evaluate student learning using appropriate* testing methods.
  • Maintain a student-oriented approach to education.
  • Recommend students for advancement and graduation when requested.
  • Maintain accurate records of student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
  • Submit accurate and timely reports when requested or required.
  • Assist the program director, faculty, and staff in maintaining an effective program.
  • Serve on committees and attend faculty and other meetings when invited.
  • Become thoroughly familiar with the academic freedom and professional responsibility statement, and adhere to related policies.
  • Maintain safe classroom conditions and interactions.
  • Instruct students and evaluate learning using methods consistent with OTL-recommended best practices.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from a COAMFTE-Accredited college or university program with a doctoral degree in MFT or a closely related area, AND two years of experience teaching or other closely related professional experience.

Physical Requirements:
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom environment.

Preferred Qualifications:
License in Marriage and Family Therapy or closely related area AND one year of experience teaching masters-level students

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the subject matter and discipline being taught.
  • Knowledge of instructional design and curriculum development principles.
  • Understanding of OTL-recommended teaching methods and best practices.
  • Knowledge of assessment techniques and evaluation methods to measure learning outcomes.
  • Awareness of FERPA regulations and other applicable academic policies.
Skills
  • Skill in creating clear, organized, and engaging instructional materials.
  • Skill in facilitating classroom or online learning environments that promote student engagement.
  • Skill in adapting teaching methods to diverse student needs and learning styles.
  • Skill in using technology and learning management systems to support instruction.
