2 Boylston Street, 2nd Floor, Boston, MA 02116 | 617-449-7070| www.urbancollege.edu Adjunct Faculty Pool: Multiple Work Areas General Descrip-on Department: Academic Affairs/Business Administration Reports to: Vice President of Academic Affairs or their designee Urban College of Boston (“the College” or “Urban College”) invites applications from qualified subject-matter experts and experienced professionals to develop and/or teach online (asynchronous and remote via Teams) and occasional in-person courses in multiple work/disciplinary areas represented at the College, including, ESL, English, Early Childhood Education, Human Services, Sociology, Psychology, Mathematics, Natural Sciences, and Humanities. Urban College faculty are often course developers who develop and teach their courses. To reduce the burden of debt on students by reducing hefty textbook costs, the College has adopted the practice of utilizing quality open educational resources (OER). Instructors who wish to develop their own online courses at the College are strongly encouraged to research and utilize OER. Demonstrated proficiency and experience in using industry-standard tools and platforms (e.g., Microsoft Office) to teach assigned core and elective courses in the program is essential to perform the job functions. Responsibili-es • Work in collaboraDon with the Program Chair(s) and Online Learning Manager to prepare syllabi and develop curricula in alignment with the college's vision and needs; • Complete all required trainings by prescribed deadlines including the College’s LMS, SIS, and collaboraDon plaTorm trainings; • UDlize OER materials in developing, updaDng, and teaching courses whenever possible; • Adapt the assigned courses to online and/or online formats as needed and following the standards established by Urban College; • Maintain excellent communicaDon with students, department, and division staff throughout the semester; • Meet students regularly at the posted class Dmes, fulfill contractual requirements, and teach assigned courses using methods that promote student learning; • Submit course syllabi, midterm and final grade reports, weekly a^endance records, early alerts, and other reports pertaining to assigned courses by required due dates; • Develop effecDve assessments regularly to measure student learning; • Provide meaningful and Dmely feedback to students; • ParDcipate in selected academic program-specific iniDaDves (e.g., advisory board meeDngs, assessment of student learning, program reviews, and academic program self-study processes) as directed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs or their designee; • Engage in professional development acDviDes to maintain excellence in teaching and learning; and • Carry out other related duDes as assigned by the Vice President of Academic Affairs or their designee. Required Qualifica-ons: • A master's degree in a closely related discipline. • Ability to effecDvely work with students with a variety of diverse characterisDcs including racial, ethnic, and linguisDc diversity, learning style differences, and variety of age and life experiences. • Excellent oral and wri^en communicaDon skills and interpersonal skills. Preferred Qualifica-ons: One or more of the following: • Experience working with historically underserved populaDons. • Undergraduate teaching experience in a two-year college and/or mentoring experience. • Experience in implemenDng engaging online teaching pracDces. • Bilingual proficiency (e.g., Spanish, Portuguese, Mandarin, HaiDan Creole). • Experience using a Learning Management System (LMS), such as Brightspace, Canvas, or Moodle. • Experience using a Student InformaDon System (SIS), such as SONIS. • Experience using a collaboraDon plaTorm, such as Microsod Teams. Compensa-on: The star-ng compensa-on for teaching is $3,100 per course. Course development fees are paid separately at a standard flat rate subject to successful execu-on of a course development contract.
