Position Overview
Virginia Transformer Corp is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to lead core accounting operations and support the financial integrity of a rapidly growing, multi-site manufacturing organization. This role will oversee day-to-day accounting activities, ensure compliance with GAAP, and partner closely with finance and operations leadership to drive accuracy, efficiency, and scalability across the business.
This is a high-impact role offering visibility to senior leadership and the opportunity to help build and enhance accounting processes in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting Operations & Close
- Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Ensure the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, and accruals
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and close procedures
Financial Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, variance reports, and supporting schedules
- Partner with Finance leadership on P&L analysis, cost tracking, and operational reporting
- Provide insights into cost drivers, margins, and business performance to support decision-making
Team Leadership
- Manage, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals
- Establish clear performance expectations and drive accountability across the team
- Foster a culture of accuracy, urgency, collaboration, and continuous improvement
Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and regulatory standards
- Support internal and external audit activities
- Maintain documentation, reconciliations, and processes to ensure audit readiness
Process Improvement & Systems
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve efficiency
- Partner cross-functionally with Operations, Supply Chain, HR, and other business leaders to improve financial workflows
- Support ERP and system enhancements as needed to scale the accounting function
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA preferred
- 5–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience managing, mentoring, or developing a team
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and ERP systems
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, growth-oriented manufacturing environment
Preferred Experience
- Manufacturing or industrial accounting experience strongly preferred
- Cost accounting or plant accounting exposure
- Experience supporting multi-site or global operations
- Experience in a high-growth or evolving organization
