Accounting Manager (Hybrid – Emeryville, CA)


We are partnering with a highly respected, long-established design firm with over a century of history delivering complex healthcare, academic, and civic projects across Northern California. Known for its stability, collaborative culture, and deep client relationships, this mid-sized professional services firm offers a unique opportunity to step into a high-impact, visible role.

This is not a typical Accounting Manager position. This role sits at the intersection of project accounting, systems ownership, and operational leadership, with direct exposure to senior leadership and influence over how financial processes and systems evolve.


The Opportunity

This is a succession-driven hire with a structured transition plan, providing the opportunity to work alongside a long-tenured leader before stepping into full ownership. You’ll play a critical role in ensuring continuity, while also modernizing and optimizing accounting operations and systems.


What You’ll Do

Accounting & Project Finance

  • Lead full-cycle accounting: AP, AR, invoicing, cash management, and reconciliations
  • Oversee project accounting across multiple active engagements
  • Partner with project managers and leadership on billing, budgets, and financial performance
  • Monitor WIP, contract terms, and project profitability
  • Perform account analysis and manage journal entries

Systems & ERP Ownership (Deltek Vantagepoint)

  • Serve as the internal owner and administrator of Deltek Vantagepoint
  • Train internal users and drive system adoption

Team & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Supervise and mentor project accounting staff
  • Partner closely with leadership, project teams, and HR
  • Support payroll processes, timesheet accuracy, and 401(k) coordination

What We’re Looking For

  • 5–12 years of accounting experience, ideally within architecture, engineering, or professional services
  • Strong background in project-based accounting and full-cycle accounting
  • Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint (or similar ERP systems) strongly preferred
  • Exposure to payroll or HR-related financial processes is a plus
