This position uses advanced accounting expertise to oversee the financial operations of Prison Enterprises, ensuring accurate reporting through the JD Edwards accounting system. The role supports a large, self-funded agency with diverse industrial and agricultural operations by managing financial data flow, reporting, and compliance. It is responsible for producing key financial reports, maintaining payroll and asset records, and supporting budgeting and cash management decisions. The position ensures all accounting functions are completed accurately and on time to meet agency and state requirements.

Five years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus two years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting plus two years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics plus two years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics plus one year of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:
  • Prepare financial reports, budget projections, and cash flow analyses to support agency operations and decision-making.
  • Manage payroll accounting, including liability calculations, journal entries, and financial reporting adjustments.
  • Maintain fixed asset records and monitor cash flow, ensuring compliance with state policies and accurate financial tracking.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type:PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

  • Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
  • An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
  • This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.
Compensation:This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) of $26.50per hour.

Note regarding the advertised pay range:The maximum amounts listed are the maximum salary amounts a person can make at each level over their career andNOT the amount we are allowed to pay a new hire.
