Position Description:

This position is a professional, non-instructional advising role supporting the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) on the Tampa campus and reports to a CAS Assistant Director of Advising.  This position suits those who identify as a lifelong learner and who embrace technology and innovative approaches to their professional practice.  CAS Academic Advisors maintain comprehensive knowledge of academic programs, policies, procedures, and student support services across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. Advisors collaborate with their departments and supervisors to remain current on academic and career-related information relevant to their student populations.  

45% (Essential): Academic Advising (Student Interactions & Connections)

  • Using different advising approaches based on student need, will work directly with students at admission recruiting events, orientation, one-on-one appointments, facilitating workshops and other student focused events.  
  • Academic Advising responsibilities for CAS students include creation of academic plans and schedules, major selection, career goal identification, and integration of academic and career goals for future success in appropriate timeline.  

40% (Essential): Administrative Duties for Academic Advising (Transactions & Metrics)

  • Maintain accurate and confidential advising records and graduation plans
  • Utilize USF student information systems and degree audits to track student progress and support delivery of advising services
  • Maintain advising handouts and resources and provide individualized and encouraging outreach to various student populations
  • Process curricular changes, grant permits, and end registration holds in accordance with policies and standards 

10% (Essential): Cross Functional Collaboration Activities

  • Attend and participate in university office fairs, student organization meetings, and consultation meetings with other department representatives to broaden knowledge of student resources and options  
  • Attend and participate in college advising and department meetings to enhance core knowledge, collaborative efforts, and communication to provide excellent academic advising to our students.
